Job Description:
vDefend Firewall is a critical pillar of VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) security story, specifically focusing on micro-segmentation and zero trust to secure private cloud. As a Senior vDefend Firewall Product Manager is responsible for the strategic direction, feature prioritization, and market success of the vDefend security suite.
As a Senior Product Manager, you own the lifecycle of vDefend Firewall capabilities, from ideation and competitive analysis to launch and customer adoption. You will act as the bridge between engineering, sales, and enterprise customers to ensure the (distributed & gateway) firewall remains the industry standard for east-west traffic security.
Core Responsibilities
Product Strategy & Roadmap: Define and maintain a 12–18 month roadmap for vDefend Firewall. Identify market shifts toward Zero Trust, Centralized Policy Management & Security-as-Code to ensure vDefend maintains market leadership.
Feature Definition: Author detailed PRDs (Product Requirement Documents) for key features.
Go-to-Market (GTM) Leadership: Collaborate with Marketing to develop messaging, technical white papers, and sales enablement tools.
Customer Advocacy: Lead "Design Partner" programs with enterprise customers to gather feedback on beta features, specifically around existing deployments and core new firewall features to be added.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with the VCF teams to ensure seamless integration of vDefend Firewall story and logging across the VCF stack.
Pricing & Packaging: Work with business operations to refine SKU structures and ROI modeling for vDefend add-on.
Qualifications & Skills
Experience/Education: BS in Engineering/Computer Science and 8 years in Product Management, with a focus on Network Security or Data Center Infrastructure or a Masters in Engineering/Computer Science and 8 years in Product Management, with a focus on Network Security or Data Center Infrastructure
Domain Expertise: Deep understanding of L2–L7 stateful firewalls, micro-segmentation, and zero trust technology
Technical Depth: Ability to discuss details of firewall data plane and API-first architectures and automation (Terraform/Ansible) with engineering teams.
Leadership: High-level influence skills (P4 level requires the ability to lead without direct authority across global teams).
As a Senior Product Manager, you are expected to operate with high autonomy:
Think Horizontally: How does the firewall impact the private cloud operations and deployment along with VCF?
Scale the Business: You are measured not just on "shipping code," but on the adoption rate of the vDefend product line.

Compensation and Benefits
The annual base salary range for this position is $120,000 - $192,000
This position is also eligible for a discretionary annual bonus in accordance with relevant plan documents, and equity in accordance with equity plan documents and equity award agreements.
