Job Description
Position Purpose:
Oversee and participate in the daily operation and maintenance of the utility distribution and collection and assist with storm systems and other functions of the project. Position has responsibility for safety and environmental compliance as well as performance management and staff development.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
- Responsible for supervising hourly staff including work scheduling, assignment, and daily progress of crew through site visits and the use of CMMS/GIS software.
- Assist employees in troubleshooting as needed.
- Assist with afterhours emergencies.
- Responsible for managing PRoject’s DOT program.
- Follows proper health and safety standards.
- Considerable knowledge of effective supervisory methods and practices including training, coaching, counseling, employees team-building and conflict management.
- Ability to develop, organize, and manage records and reports pertinent to the activities supervised.
- Strong desire to establish and maintain effective working relationships, teams, and work groups with other employees, contractors and the general public.
- Utilizes computers and software as assigned.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Environment:
- Roughly 60/40 in the field and office.
Qualifications
Education/Experience/Background:
- High School Diploma/GED is required.
- 3- 5 years of experience with Public Works.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of the repair, maintenance, and construction of water, sewer, and storm lines and related components
- Knowledge of electrical, mechanical and instrumentation systems is preferable.
- Knowledge of health and safety standards and precautions pertaining to utilities operations and maintenance procedures.
- Working experience in the operation of job-related heavy equipment including lawn mowers, dump trucks, backhoes/frontend loaders, vacuum trucks, hand and power tools
- Knowledge of cavitation / trenching.
- Ability to develop, organize, and manage records and reports pertinent to the activities supervised through the use of Google Office, CMMS, and GIS Software
- Strong desire to establish and maintain effective working relationships, teams, and work groups with other employees, contractors and the general public.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Thorough knowledge and the ability to use computers and applications for the utility profession.
Required Certification/Licenses/Training:
- Valid NC driver’s license.
- CDL license is a plus.
- CT DPH Water Distribution System Operator Certification preferred is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
- The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; climb stairs or ladders; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste or smell.
- The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include ability to distinguish color, close vision and distance vision.
