Background & Purpose of the Job

We are seeking a passionate, curious, detail-oriented Scientist to join our Global Skin Care CTI (Consumer Technical Insight) group as part of our Trumbull, CT based team. This is an exciting opportunity for a role to uncover insights that will guide our brands and category to ensure we create products and communications that deliver to consumer needs, via consumer, sensory, claims and product storytelling skills.

Who You Are & What You’ll Do

In this role you will have the opportunity to:

  • Be an expert for Insights. Using both consumer research and sensory tools to uncover the insights to guide new product development.

  • Collaborate closely with brand marketing, Consumer & Market Insight (CMI) and the development team to define and develop consumer insight plans to fulfil our consumers’ needs and capture market trends.

  • Drive compelling claims, communications, and KBS (knowledge-based selling) demos for multiple brands that will land in global markets and regions across different channels.

  • Deliver communications from R&D, helping to develop communications that are purposeful and extremely compelling to bring our products to life in emerging channels.

  • Ability to deliver Holistic Product Design through consumer/sensory research and claims development.

  • Lead projects associated with CTI/Claims innovation activities.

  • Design Consumer/Sensory research, develop Claims and Demo support strategy.

  • Ability to communicate insights within and outside R&D to ensure that these land into innovation projects.

  • Work seamlessly with multiple functions (Packaging, Processing, Clusters/ Regions, R&D Brand Design teams) to craft future proof content fit for the needs of our growing business, based on consumer insights and data analysis, developing stories and claim support, ensuring strong consumer relevance and engagement.

  • Ability to strengthen the relationship & engagement with external agencies: research agencies, Sensory panel agencies and/ or 3Ps in Asia for new formats and technologies.

  • Monitor product trends and champion e insight accordingly to ensure this informs winning content through to activation

  • Interpretation of scientific data and turn these into insights and/or product opportunities.

  • Work closely with Data Science teams for in-silico tools such as the Sensory Signal Testing (SST) model, Structured Data Capture (SDC) for sensory and consumer and any future Digital initiatives across CTI.

  • Explore new research methods and digital tools such as big data analysis, implicit method, artificial intelligence to drive Skin Care’s ambition to do bigger, better and faster innovations.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biology Science, Psychology

  • Knowledge of Sensory Science, Consumer research, statistics is a must

  • 1+ years experience in Formulation Design/ Development and/or CTI/Claims (Consumer research, Sensory, Claims and Communication Development) (including internship) is preferred

  • Claim support and demo creation techniques

  • Sensory & consumer testing techniques

  • Formulation & lab practical ability

  • Knowledge of digital tools & systems

Pay: The pay range for this position is $53,200 to $79,700. Unilever takes into consideration a wide range of factors that are utilized in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, qualifications and education, and other business and organizational needs.

Bonus: This position is bonus eligible.

Long-Term Incentive (LTI): This position is LTI eligible.
