JOB PURPOSE

Beauty & Wellbeing (B&W) is a key Business Group for Unilever with a very ambitious growth and sustainability agenda. Beauty & Wellbeing brings together Hair Care, Skin Care, Prestige and Health & Wellness, with brands including Dove, TRESemmé, Vaseline, Sunsilk and Ponds.

Delivering Superior Brand Experiences is at the heart of B&W and R&D has a pivotal role to play in developing impactful global innovations and renovations that delight consumers and provide us with a source of competitive advantage.

The Beauty and Wellbeing consumer cohort spans the greatest breadth in Unilever’s entire portfolio: hair and skin types, where these are related through a vast diversity of ethnicities, life-stages, lifestyles and purchasing power. Many of the insights travel freely between the markets, and many range innovation opportunities exist at the consumer benefit level.

The Consumer Technical Insight & Claims Team (CTIC) is an integral part of opening-up these market opportunities in R&D, sitting at the interface between product design and marketing. Our purpose is to guide our brand and category design partners to create products that deliver to the consumer needs, with product experiences that delight consumers and cue desired benefits. We develop communications that are purposeful and extremely compelling. That’s why B&W CTI are a crucial component of the R&D teams delivering products and claims that embody purpose, science and desire.

The B&W CTIC Claims Specialist will translate product superiority & science into desire: desire sparked by blockbuster product claims & communications that inspire consumers and customers to choose our products. They will be a consumer champion, ensuring product claims are inclusive and accurate whilst managing risk and driving competitiveness. Success will be enabled by strong partnerships across functions and locations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Unearth the unique, winning product claims and demos hidden in our next- generation technologies, insights, formats and product experiences. Inspire and facilitate others to do the same.

  • Develop and refine the claims ambition for key brands within B&W

  • Substantiate, risk-assess and defend winning, consumer-relevant product claims

  • Co-ordinate claims development activities in a multi-disciplinary, dynamic business environment, providing a critical link between BU and BG Research and Development, Marketing, Legal & Regulatory Teams.

  • Deliver on specific strategic, activities and capabilities as part of the larger claims team, in order to “raise the game” in the way we develop claims.

  • Partner effectively with external agencies to generate consumer & technical communication insights, delivering true value for the business as a result.

ALL ABOUT YOU

  • Bachelor’s degree in a physical science, consumer science or equivalent.

  • Experience of working in product development, technical marketing or consumer insights within the beauty or personal care industry.

  • Adept at understanding technical content, concepts and regulatory spaces in detail. A strong ability to translate the same content for non-technical audiences.

  • Effective when working as part of multi-disciplined, virtual teams across multiple concurrent projects

  • A good communicator, obsessed by consumers and brands.

  • Brings the voice of the consumer into everything we do, by understanding the needs of the B&W consumer to help our brands and products find ways to better serve our consumers.

  • The judgement and capacity to work at pace, balancing appeal versus risk.
