The Associate Manager, Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), supports The Wonderful Company’s commitment to world-class safety and environmental stewardship by assisting in developing, implementing, and continuously improving EHS programs and initiatives. This role partners with business units and differentiates functions to help protect employees' health and well-being, promote safe work practices, and support compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.
The Associate Manager, EHS provides technical guidance, coaching, and hands-on support to operations and leadership teams, helping to strengthen safety culture and improve EHS performance. Working under the direction of senior EHS leadership, this position contributes to program execution, data analysis, audits, training, and problem-solving efforts that drive learning and continuous improvement across the organization.
Job Description
- Support the implementation and continuous improvement of EHS programs, policies, and procedures to protect employees and the environment and ensure regulatory and company standard compliance.
- Provide day-to-day EHS technical support to assigned sites through regular field presence, coaching leaders and employees on safe work practices, hazard recognition, and risk mitigation.
- Assist with incident investigations, near-miss reviews, and serious event learning activities by applying Human & Organizational Performance (HOP) principles; identifying system-level contributing factors; evaluating control effectiveness; and leading or supporting structured problem-solving efforts (e.g., Learning Teams, PDCAs) to develop and track sustainable corrective actions.
- Participate in EHS audits, assessments, and inspections; document findings, support action planning, and follow up on corrective action closure to ensure effectiveness and sustainability.
- Support Serious Injury & Fatality (SIF) risk identification and reduction efforts, including hazard analysis, control verification, and evaluation of control quality.
- Deliver and support EHS training, orientations, and refresher programs; reinforce expectations through field engagement and coaching.
- Collect, analyze, and summarize EHS data and leading indicators to support reporting, dashboards, and leadership decision-making.
- Support regulatory compliance activities, including recordkeeping, reporting, and coordination during inspections or agency interactions under senior EHS guidance.
- Collaborate with operations, maintenance, engineering, HR, and other partners to integrate EHS considerations into daily operations, projects, and change management activities.
- Support contractor safety programs, including onboarding, field observations, and compliance with site-specific EHS requirements.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- 3–6 years of EHS experience in manufacturing, agriculture, food processing, or similar operational environments.
- Working knowledge of core EHS programs (e.g., Lockout/Tagout, Machine Guarding, Confined Space, Electrical Safety) and applicable regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT, NFPA).
- Experience supporting inspections, incident investigations, audits, and corrective actions.
- Ability to deliver EHS training and provide field coaching.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills with the ability to influence across all levels.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Ability to meet physical demands, wear PPE, and travel up to 25%.
- Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Safety, Environmental Health, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with EHS management systems and continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., ISO-based systems, HOP).
- Experience using EHS reporting or BI tools (e.g., Enablon, Power BI).
- Professional EHS certification (or progress toward one).
- Experience in Agricultural and/or Food & Beverage environments.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish).
Salary: $80,000 - $95,000 and may include a discretionary bonus. Final compensation will be dependent upon skills & experience.
