Company Description

The Wonderful Company now wishes to expand its investments in Fiji by diversifying into agriculture, specifically citrus and papaya, as well as beekeeping education. Thus, we have created a new position to function as leader, key advisor, strategist, and tactician within Fiji to establish this new agricultural business in Fiji. This leadership role involves managing operational budgets, crop yields, quality control, and compliance while ensuring the effective use of resources, sustainable practices, and continuous improvements in farming operations. The Director will lead a team, ensuring that all farming activities are aligned with company goals and agricultural best practices. This new role reports to the President, Wonderful Citrus in the United States.

Job Description

Role and responsibilities

• Primary responsibility for effectively implementing agricultural investment strategy
• Leverage Wonderful Company subject matter experts to advise on implementation
• Establish agricultural operations, set goals, track progress of activities and forecast projected completion dates, including greenfields development, workforce development, nursery development, and building necessary infrastructure
• Oversee daily farming operations, including planting, irrigation, chemical application, and harvesting activities
• Oversee the management and maintenance of farm equipment and machinery, ensuring operational readiness and adherence to safety standards
• Coordinate and negotiate with external suppliers, contractors, and vendors for crop inputs, labor, and equipment needs.
• Develop, manage, maintain budgets; review any cost variances to the budget
• Support the organization in meeting its long and short term goals
• Achieve organizational goals through effective planning, execution, resource management, and cost control
• Identify local talent and build agriculture team
• Understand markets and collaborate with Wonderful Company sales, quality, and shipping departments to ensure proactive communication and alignment on production and delivery
• Ensure compliance with all laws, including OHS and environmental compliance
• Manage relationships with regulatory agencies, industry groups, and community stakeholders, representing the company’s interests in farming-related matters

Qualifications

• Minimum 7-10 years senior management experience in agricultural operations, with at least 5 years in a leadership capacity managing large-scale farm operations.
• Demonstrable experience successfully delivering large agriculture projects
• Strong financial acumen and ability to balance risk and cost and deliver positive outcomes
• Proficient in farm management software, budgeting tools, Microsoft Office Suite
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
• Negotiation and analytical skills and a positive attitude to continued learning
• Experience managing multiple crews and locations
• Strong project management, time management, and organizational skills
• Excellent stakeholder management influencing & networking skills
• High level of integrity and work ethic
• Strong leader in problem-solving, idea generation and creative solutions
• Strong awareness of agricultural best practices and methods
• A degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, Agronomy, or a related field is preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
