Job Description
Overview:
Collects soil moisture data in real time using a TDR device connected via Bluetooth to a mobile app. Performs plant water stress assessments using a pressure chamber and conducts irrigation system uniformity tests across assigned ranches and blocks. Records and uploads data using mobile technology with minimal supervision. Maintains accurate logs of all readings and communicates findings to the supervisor—especially when dry zones or irrigation issues are identified. Operates independently in the field and performs general irrigation-related duties as assigned by management. May work at different ranch locations as needed.
Here’s what you’ll do:
- Soil Moisture Monitoring:
- Uses a Bluetooth-enabled TDR device and mobile app to collect and record real-time soil moisture readings
- Ensures proper calibration and care of equipment
- Plant Water Stress Monitoring:
- Uses a pressure chamber (pressure bomb) to collect and assess leaf samples for water stress
- Records and labels samples accurately and in accordance with protocols
- Irrigation Uniformity Testing:
- Performs irrigation system uniformity checks (distribution uniformity tests)
- Identifies uneven watering or system inefficiencies and reports findings
- Data Collection & Communication:
- Accurately records all readings and field data using mobile technology and approved data collection apps
- Submits timely updates to supervisor, especially when identifying dry areas, low-pressure zones, or system irregularities
- Maintains organized digital and/or paper logs as needed
- Technology Use:
- Operates mobile devices, Bluetooth-connected sensors, and farming data platforms
- Troubleshoots minor tech issues related to connectivity or data syncing
- Field Operations:
- Works independently across assigned ranches and blocks, following irrigation monitoring schedules
- Performs general irrigation-related tasks or labor as directed
- May assist in locating or resolving issues with field emitters or lines when necessary
- Team & Safety:
- Communicates regularly with the supervisor and provides updates throughout the day
- Follows all company safety protocols and wears required PPE
- May work at multiple ranch sites or rotate between blocks based on operational needs
Qualifications
Here's what you'll bring to the table:
- Be able to lift 50 lbs. on occasion
- Must possess a valid driver’s license
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred but not required
- Be in good physical condition to do continuous bending, stooping and walking on a day-long basis
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret data
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee must regularly work in outdoor agricultural environments and work in varying weather conditions including heat, cold, and humidity
- To effectively meet the demands of the position, travel up to 50% and is required
