Job Description

The Director of Technology provides leadership and strategic oversight for all aspects of the school’s technology infrastructure, instructional technology, and data systems. This role manages network and server administration, cybersecurity, technical support, and technology integration to enhance teaching, learning, and operational efficiency. The Director will supervise technology staff, manage vendor relationships, and ensure compliance with all data privacy and security requirements.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Develop and implement a vision and strategic plan for the WCPA’s technology aligned with academic and operational priorities.
  • Oversee the design, security, and maintenance of wired/wireless networks, servers, cloud services, firewalls, and backup systems.
  • Manage enterprise systems, including Active Directory, Google Workspace for Education, and other systems the organization utilizes.
  • Ensure compliance with FERPA, COPPA, CIPA, AB 1584, and state/federal reporting requirements.
  • Lead the Technology Department, providing supervision, mentorship, and professional development to Information Technology team members.
  • Oversee the Help Desk function to deliver high-quality technical support for staff, students, and families.
  • Plan and execute technology projects, including upgrades, migrations, and integrations.
  • Develop and manage the technology budget, purchasing processes, and vendor contracts.
  • Oversee technology-related professional development and onboarding for new staff and students.
  • Collaborate with leadership teams to align technology initiatives with instructional needs.
  • Plan, develop, direct, coordinate, and maintain a robust and comprehensive infrastructure, architecture, and program that supports the use of school-based technology and information effectively and efficiently in an integrated manner for both instructional and administrative functions
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • 4-year degree or AA with 8 years’ experience in related field
  • 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in technology leadership, network/systems administration, and IT project management, preferably in a K-12 education system
  • Proven success supervising staff, managing vendors, and delivering enterprise-level IT solutions
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Knowledge of common classroom technology devices and software
  • Experience with Windows and Mac operating systems
  • Knowledge of network infrastructure and protocols
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • A+ and/or Network+ certification or equivalent experience preferred
  • Experience working and managing a team in a TK-12 educational environment is strongly preferred
  • Clearance of FBI/DOJ
  • TB clearance
  • Mandated reporter certificate
  • Experience in working with a diverse student population

Skills, Knowledge:

  • Expertise in enterprise network administration, cybersecurity, cloud services, and instructional technology integration.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to plan strategically, manage budgets, and oversee complex projects.
  • Ability to use a variety of software programs and quickly learn new ones
  • CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+ Certifications or equivalent experience
  • Strong knowledge of virtualization and storage technologies
  • Skill in configuring and managing network infrastructure components such as networking switches and firewalls

Working Conditions:

  • Work Hours: Monday – Friday 7:30am – 4:30pm; however, work hours may vary depending on outages, updates, or business demands. On-call may apply in certain instances due to system outages.
  • Environment: Office environment; fast-paced work, constant interruptions.
  • Physical requirements: Hearing and speaking to exchange information, make presentations and communicate over the telephone; seeing to read, prepare, and proofread documents and view computer monitors; sitting or standing for extended periods of time; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and other office equipment; kneeling, bending at the waist, and reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally, to retrieve and store files and supplies; lifting light objects; ability to go to sites apart from primary office to conduct business.

Pay Range: $124,000.00 - $130,000.00. Final compensation will be dependent upon skills & experience.

  • Wonderful College Prep Academy offers highly competitive compensation, commensurate with experience.
  • Full-time staff benefits include medical coverage, dental, vision, and life insurance at no cost to the employee. We also offer an optional 403b, with company match, as a supplement to STRS retirement pension. In addition, employees have free access to the Wonderful Wellness Center and gym.
