The Restaurant at JUSTIN is seeking a full-time Commis (Prep Cook) to join the team! A Commis (Prep Cook) is responsible for all culinary dishes that are prepared in their section as well as basic prep for the Chef de Partie's. Because of this, a successful Commis must be very knowledgeable about his or her specialty, as well as culinary functions in general. A person in this role must also be very organized and comfortable working in a high-pressure environment. This candidate must also be able to give orders within their section, as well as reliably carry out orders handed down to them by the Sous Chef and Head Chef.

The work schedule for this position is Tuesday - Saturday (7:30 AM - 4:00 PM). Sunday and Monday off. The person in this role must be flexible with their schedule depending on team or business needs.

Job Description

  • Well-trained on the operation of kitchen equipment, including slicer, food processor, griddles, french tops, ovens, burners, mixer, knives
  • Understands how to read and prepare simple recipes to department standards
  • Follow standardized recipes
  • Prepare and serve food according to set menus and standardized recipes while keeping waste to a minimum
  • Turn on all equipment needed for daily prep (steamer, food warmers, ovens, hoods and tilt skillet)
  • Communicate with management any product or service issues or opportunities for the Kitchen area
  • Assists chef, cooks and other kitchen staff in preparation of menu items by prepping various ingredients including vegetables, pasta, vinaigrettes, extruded pasta
  • Deliver/stock supply items in designated areas in an accurate and timely manner. Organize and maintain all storage areas

Qualifications

  • Previous kitchen experience preferred, but not required
  • Demonstrated strong ability to work well under pressure and thrive in a fast paced working environment
  • Ability to establish direction, obtain commitment and execute appropriate logistical processes
  • Exceptional attention to detail, and be passionate about food and wine
  • Have a calm and approachable demeanor
  • Superb time management and organizational skills

Pay Range: $19.50 - $21.50 per hour. Final compensation will be dependent upon skills and experience.
