Job Description

Overview:

Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of all packing activities for various citrus varieties. Performs the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors, as well as managing the day-to-day operations.

Here's what you’ll do:

  • Responsible for achieving, sustaining and continuously improving safety, quality, efficiency, and cost results.
  • Supervises the packing department staff
  • Responsible for overseeing the packing process for multiple commodities, i.e. lemons and oranges
  • Oversees operation of all equipment used in packing
  • Works with the planning department to determine run schedules
  • Coordinates production activities with upstream and downstream departments
  • Maintains overall safety programs and sees that basic labor laws are enforced
  • Responsible for maintaining a safe, orderly and clean facility always
  • Supports in maintaining quality control program and achieving 3rd party quality audit objectives
  • Sees that machinery and equipment repair schedules are kept
  • Carries out personnel policies and procedures consistently
  • Keeps management and sales department informed of production schedules
  • Answers inquiries on production issues
  • Prepares cost budgets and reconciliations
  • Investigates customers’ complaints involving such matters as fruit quality, delay in shipment and makes necessary adjustments.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Identify and analyze non-value added (waste) activities
  • Lead the development and implementation of Lean CI plans to create continuous flow and reduce waste.
  • Work across department boundaries to improve the overall production process.
  • Implement and sustain 5S
  • Manage results through visual factory
  • Build CI knowledge in self and others via implementation and coaching
  • Communicate business direction and results
  • Advocate continuous improvement processes through word and action
  • Provide challenges and support team members to continuously improve results
  • Utilize Plan-Do-Check-Act, root cause analysis, and process standardization to systemically solve problems

Qualifications

Here’s what you’ll bring to the table:

  • Bachelor’s degree from four-year College or university; or seven or more year’s related experience and/or training in a production environment or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft software
  • Self-motivated individual with excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Ability to motivate others and implement change
  • Works well in a team environment
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Bilingual: English and Spanish preferred
