Electronics Repair Technician II

Position Summary

Thales is looking for an Electronics Repair Technician II, whose role involves diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing electronic equipment independently while monitoring and improving daily shop activities. This position is responsible for assigning work plans, contributing to process optimization, managing consumable inventories, and providing guidance to Tech I technicians. The experience and expertise of this role contribute directly to the team’s efficiency and success in meeting production and quality goals.

In this position, you will diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair electronic equipment while supporting daily shop performance and improvement initiatives. You will assist with assigning work plans, managing consumable inventories, and contributing to process optimization efforts, while providing technical guidance to Tech I technicians to support efficient operations and achievement of production and quality objectives.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Equipment Troubleshooting and Repair: Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair electronic equipment independently in accordance with product reference cost standards, customer specifications, and internal processes and procedures. Provide technical guidance to technicians on complex repairs, follow established ISO procedures, support training activities, and act as a liaison between technicians and Engineering during chronic investigations, including leading initial reviews of returns.
  • Shop Performance and Work Plan Management: Monitor daily shop performance to ensure expected results, identify root causes of issues, and implement corrective actions. Assign daily and weekly work plans aligned to customer delivery, production plans, training requirements, and company deliverables. Maintain accurate SIM boards, track equipment status and blocking issues, and utilize red bin escalation in coordination with cross-functional teams.
  • Process Optimization and Continuous Improvement: Collaborate with Operations and technical teams to identify and implement best practices, lean concepts, and process improvements that enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve repair outcomes. Proactively improve product documentation, repair procedures, work instructions, and repair matrices, while supporting material availability through accurate requests, alternate solutions, and Service Bulletin package recommendations.
  • Consumables and Inventory Management: Monitor and manage shop consumables and supplies, including ordering replacement chemicals, reviewing inventory levels, and preventing shortages. Ensure proper handling, labeling, shelf-life compliance, and safe storage of chemicals through regular Chemical Cabinet reviews and compliant disposal of expired materials.
  • Supervisory and Leadership Support: Assume acting supervisory responsibilities in the absence of management, ensuring proper coordination, task assignment, adherence to established protocols, and support of production and training requirements.
  • Communication and Return to Service (RTS) Responsibilities: Communicate regularly with Repair Line Managers and cross-functional teams regarding work plans, progress, challenges, KPIs, and escalation needs. Perform Return to Service Inspector duties by reviewing work order packages for compliance with customer, quality, and regulatory requirements, resolving customer paperwork rejections in a timely manner, and reviewing rejection reports to support root cause analysis and RTS process standardization.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of two (2) years of work experience in electronics repair and/or maintenance.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and follow established procedures.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, and rotation across shifts, and willingness to work in any area within Repair or Production as required.
  • Must speak, read, and write English fluently, maintain regular attendance and punctuality, and present a professional appearance aligned with Thales culture and values.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located and possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that meets Thales insurance standards.
  • Must successfully pass a seven (7) year background check and drug test.

Special Position Requirements

  • Requires rotation between all shifts, including weekends and holidays, with the ability to work overtime and flexible schedules as operational needs require.
  • Repair Station environment may present elevated noise levels.
  • Must be willing and able to travel both domestically and internationally.
  • Preferred: Four (4) years of avionics or repair station experience.
  • Preferred: Prior military or commercial avionics Level 3 component repair experience.
  • Preferred: Understanding of Federal Aviation Regulations and other governing regulatory requirements.
  • Preferred: Ability to meticulously document incoming product condition and maintenance activities.

Total Target Cash (TTC) 45,664.00 - 81,120.00 USD Annual

Where a position falls within this range is also dependent on other factors including – but not limited to – the employee’s career path history, competencies, skills and performance, as well as the company’s annual salary budget, the customer’s program requirements, and the company’s internal equity. Thales may offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s status protected by local, state, or federal law.
