Position Summary
Thales requires a Junior Technical Publications Specialist to support the preparation, revision, and delivery of supportability engineering tasks and technical documentation. The successful candidate will contribute to maintaining Canadian Forces Technical Orders (CFTOs), reviewing OEM manuals and specifications, and assisting in the development of maintenance and support documentation to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with National Defence standards. This role requires frequent interaction with Thales engineering, procurement, and service delivery personnel, Technical Authorities, and ship staff to gather information, validate updates, and ensure technical accuracy.
Key Areas of Responsibility
- Collect, organize, and analyze technical data in support of Product and Logistics Support Analysis (LSA) activities such as Reliability, Maintainability, and Failure Analysis. Review vendor documentation and OEM manuals to identify maintenance and support requirements.
- Develop Maintenance Plans, Preventive or Corrective Maintenance Schedules, Instructions, and Performance Tests as well as Spare Parts Lists and accompanying Provisioning Technical Data for new equipment or modifications to existing ship systems.
- Support the management and organization of data within Logistics Support Analysis Record (LSAR) tools and the Maximo maintenance management system. Collaborate with Thales engineering, procurement, and service delivery personnel, Technical Authorities, and ship staff to validate updates and resolve maintenance or documentation queries.
- Maintain and revise existing CFTOs, incorporating updates from OEM manuals, specifications, and preventive maintenance routines. Create, review, and process Document Change Requests; assist in the preparation of Change Packages to ensure technical data reflects the latest system/equipment configuration.
- Proofread, edit, and standardize technical documentation for grammar, clarity, and consistency. Ensure all technical data and publications are accurate, logically structured, and aligned with applicable National Defence standards.
- Collaborate with Configuration Management to ensure technical documentation is accurate, accessible, and compliant with policies, procedures, and applicable standards.
Minimum Qualifications
- An Engineering degree or Technologist diploma in mechanical, electrical, electronic, industrial, reliability, or naval engineering.
- Strong technical writing, proofreading, and editing skills with attention to grammar and clarity.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to collaborate with engineering, procurement, service delivery personnel, Technical Authorities, and ship staff.

Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with Maximo or other maintenance management systems.
- Exposure to Logistics Support Analysis application software such as OmegaPS, Reliasoft, Eagle ELT, SLIC2B, Relex, or Analyzer.
- Background in naval systems and equipment. Experience supporting an operational military asset.
- Knowledge of Canadian Forces Technical Orders (CFTOs) and government-adopted technical publications.
- Knowledge of S1000D specification and IETM format. Understanding of configuration management processes and technical documentation standards.
Special Position Requirements
- Schedule: 40 hours per week.
- Physical Environment: Hybrid position – which is a mix of working from home and onsite (in office, at customer site or on board ships alongside in harbour).
- Travel: Occasional domestic travel maybe required in support of the ships.
