The role of a Stamping Program Manager is to coordinate all facets of die tooling from early planning to launch at the Stamping plant. They supervise and organize activities and ensure that project goals align with the program objectives.

Responsibilities include executing program activities in accordance with the Stamping Process Engineering (SPE) Dies Roadmap. The manager will ensure goals are met in areas including customer satisfaction, safety, budget, quality, timing and overall scope. Provide leadership and direction to bargaining unit engineers while continuing to coordinate with various cross functional organizations including Purchasing, Stamping and Assembly Plants, Platform Engineering, Vehicle Process Engineering, Welding Process Engineering, and Finance.

Responsibilities And Duties For “MAKE” And “BUY” (purchased) Stampings

  • Early program planning, establish scope and cost for upcoming programs
  • Coordinate make/buy studies
  • Organize program activities in accordance with the mission and goals of the organization.
  • Support the mission and objectives of the program objectives
  • Optimize DTM and financial objectives Provide upfront engineering feasibility for new programs to provide strategic direction within the SPE organization.
  • Create and manage long-term goals.
  • Develop budgets and operating plan for the program.
  • Develop an evaluation method to assess program strengths and identify areas for improvement.
  • Create program funding proposals to guarantee uninterrupted delivery of services.
  • Manage a team with a diverse array of talents and responsibilities.
  • Ensure goals are met in areas including customer satisfaction, safety, quality timing, budget, scope and team member performance.
  • Implement and manage changes and interventions to ensure project goals are achieved.
  • Meet with stakeholders to make communication easy and transparent regarding project issues and decisions on services.
  • Regularly report to executive leadership the project status in regard to timing, quality, scope and budget.
  • Produce accurate and timely reporting of program status throughout its life cycle.
  • Analyze program risks and create risk assessments.
  • Formulate, organize and monitor inter-connected projects.
  • Coordinate the activities of supporting organizations (MLM, Product Engineering, Fixture/gage group, quality, purchasing, stamping plant).
  • Develop and manage deadlines, budgets and work scope.
  • Manage suppliers’ cost, timing and scope.
  • 15-30% Travel (domestic)

Technical Skills

  • Advanced Excel
  • MS Project
  • Understanding CAD/CAM
  • NX Basics
  • Teamcenter PLM basics
  • PentaSAP experience
  • Understanding/reading CAD models
  • Die process, Die construction and Die tryout knowledge

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or Journeyman certification
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in die/stamping related field
  • Proven experience in program management specifically in the die area
  • Proven experience managing a team including engineers
  • Understanding of project management
  • Competency in Microsoft applications
  • High level of experience in PowerPoint and presentation skills
  • Accounting skills, e.g. requisitions and invoicing
  • Finance skills, e.g. understanding capital vs expense and forecasting
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, utilizing virtual and hard tool knowledge
  • Strong understanding, experience and knowledge of Die Process, Die Design, Draw Developments, Forming Simulations, Die Construction, Die Tryout and launch required

Preferred Qualifications

  • PMI Certification
  • Experience in MEDDS and PentaSap
  • Journeyman Status
  • 10 years working at an automotive OEM
  • Experience managing DTM KPI’s
  • Proven experience creating make/buy studies and business cases
  • Proven experience with progressive dies and line dies
  • Experience supervising bargaining unit employees
