  We’re looking for a hands-on, high-impact Principal Software Engineer to join our Infrastructure & Operations org. You’ll operate as a senior technical leader across SRE, infrastructure engineering, and data engineering domains. This role is critical in driving the scale, resilience, and automation of our cloud-native enterprise SaaS platform. You’ll collaborate across engineering teams to deliver high-availability systems, improve operational efficiency, and lead foundational infrastructure initiatives using technologies like Kafka, Kubernetes, and Terraform. In this role, you’ll also leverage AI tools like GitHub Copilot and ChatGPT to boost innovation and velocity across our engineering stack.

  The impact you will have:

  • Lead architecture and development of scalable infrastructure across compute, data, networking, and CI/CD

  • Design and maintain infrastructure as code systems using Terraform, Kubernetes, and Vault

  • Build and operate high-availability foundations such as Kafka/SQS, Postgres/Clickhouse/Redis, and service networking

  • Guide reliability and observability practices and lead post-incident learning across engineering

  • Collaborate with security, product, and data teams to align infrastructure with business priorities

  • Drive platform-wide strategies for automation, developer velocity, and operational excellence

  • Mentor engineers and cultivate a culture of ownership, learning, and technical rigor

  • Evaluate and implement new technologies with a growth mindset and focus on long-term scale

  What we look for:

  • 10–15+ years of experience scaling backend and infrastructure systems in cloud environments like AWS or GCP

  • Deep expertise in distributed systems, infrastructure automation, and service reliability

  • Hands-on proficiency with Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, Terraform, and observability stacks

  • Strong background with messaging systems (Kafka, SQS), data platforms (Postgres, Clickhouse), and scripting (Python, Go, etc.)

  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-team technical initiatives and influence platform direction

  • An aptitude for solving complex problems in ambiguous environments

  • Ability to communicate clearly, collaborate effectively, and mentor others

  • Willingness to explore and integrate AI tools into infrastructure workflows

  Bonus:

  • Experience with financial systems or regulated cloud environments

  • Contributions to open-source infrastructure projects

  • Familiarity with event-driven microservices or distributed SQL

  • Knowledge of data observability practices

  Compensation and Benefits
  The typical starting salary range for new hires in this role is $239,000 – $281,000.
  The typical starting salary range for this role in the San Francisco Bay Area, CA and New York City Metro Area is $255,000 – $300,000.
  Final compensation amounts are determined by multiple factors, including candidate experience and expertise, and may vary from the amount listed above.

  In addition to the base salary, 100% of Ridgeline employees can participate in our Company Stock Plan subject to the applicable Stock Option Agreement.
