Staff Software Development Engineer in Test, UI Platform
Ridgeline
As a Ridgeline Software Development Engineer in Test on our UI Platform team, you’ll have the unique opportunity to help us build a world class platform that powers our entire product experience. Our goal is to build an industry-defining, fast, scalable user experience by providing platform leverage for teams to build products quickly, with high quality, and consistently. We are building from scratch in cutting edge technologies in a fast-moving and creative work environment. If that sounds like an exciting challenge, you should apply to join our UI Platform team.
In this role, you will be the driving force behind high-impact quality practices across a suite of initiatives. You’ll spearhead efforts to integrate AI tools into the development lifecycle, conduct strategic exploratory testing, and enable the team to scale without sacrificing quality. Your job is to empower the engineers on the team to take ownership of the quality of the code they are building. This position will build systems, strategies, and tooling that will help the entire team deliver with confidence. This role is expected to be a technical leader whose primary focus is on architecting and scaling quality engineering solutions, not solely on writing and executing tests.
Success is not measured by maintaining a permanent quality engineer seat on the team—it’s about enabling the team to own quality as part of their core process. Your systems, frameworks, and practices will live on long after the role sunsets. This role is a launch pad to join the engineering team, not a landing pad for a quality-only role.
What will you do?
- Own the technical vision, design, and rollout of automation frameworks and drive alignment and implementation of best practices for quality and test automation across the broader Technology organization
- Design, build, and own key testing infrastructure to enable engineers to own quality as part of the development process that supports multiple product initiatives and teams.
- Lead cross-team quality engineering initiatives, mentoring engineers and acting as a subject matter expert in automation and best practices, acting as a technical advisor beyond your immediate group.
- Be fully accountable for end-to-end test architecture participating in the entire software development process from requirements analysis, design reviews, implementation, and delivery.
- Triages complex test pipeline issues across domains, influencing resolution and process improvements at the organization level.
- Act as a mentor and technical advisor to less experienced engineers providing guidance on testing methodologies, automation frameworks, and best practices by organizing learning sessions, performing code reviews, and running training activities.
Desired Skills and Experience
- 6+ years experience in quality engineering with a significant portion in staff-level or lead roles responsible for full lifecycle test automation, infrastructure ownership, and cross-team quality initiatives.
- Experience with AI quality frameworks that increase resilience in front end, browser-based testing.
- Strong proficiency in JavaScript (and/or TypeScript), with a proven track record in architecting and maintaining large-scale test automation frameworks (e.g., Cypress or Playwright).
- Engage closely with the product management and engineering teams to help establish and achieve team goals in an innovative and fast-paced environment.
- Excellent organizational and analytical skills, with the ability to take initiative, build strong relationships, and influence and align multiple teams on technical quality strategy.
- Demonstrated organizational impact in mentoring, technical leadership, and driving adoption of test automation best practices.
- Serious interest in having fun at work.
Bonus:
- Prior experience in a technical leadership role, architecting and owning automated test frameworks for complex, cross-team software projects.
- 3+ years experience in software testing methodology and a CI/CD software development life cycle.
- 3+ years test planning and automation experience.
- Experience with AWS and Datadog.
