Overview

The Director, Audience Strategy is the essential connector and expert responsible for defining, developing, and deploying high-impact audience strategies that drive client growth and retention. This role is a critical link between all parties that touch audiences—Strategy, Biddable/Investment, Data Architecture, and Measurement—ensuring flawless execution from insight generation to activation and reporting.


Responsibilities

Audience Strategy & Development (Responsible)

  • Identify & Build Audiences: Lead the identification, construction, and rigorous testing of growth and retention audiences and sub-audiences across multiple data sources: (Primarily GWI, Epsilon and native Platform data (YouTube/Google DSP, Amazon, TikTok, Spotify).
  • Audience Approval: Communicate the strategic approach and rationale for audiences and sub-audiences to partners, securing necessary approvals for activation.
  • Persona Development: Responsible for building personas or expanding upon client-provided personas, adapting strategies based on specific campaign briefs.
  • Impact Quantification: Ability to accurately quantity and communicate the expected performance impact and rationale for all audiences and sub-audiences.
  • Platform Implementation: Possess the technical ability to go into platforms (DSPs, Social) to build, size, and validate audience segments.

Cross-Functional Collaboration (Consulting)

  • Audience Architecture & Tactical Plans: Work with the Biddable/Investment and Data Architecture teams on technical audience builds necessary for campaign execution and tactical media plans.
  • Measurement & Testing: Partner with the Analytics team on designing audience test plans, overseeing implementation, and defining measurement frameworks.
  • Budgeting Alignment: Assist the existing Planning team in budgeting and allocating media spend based directly off of defined, sized, and valued audience segments.

Scope of Work

The role will be primarily responsible for US campaigns, with global projects serving as a secondary focus (allocated based on time and skill set availability).

  • Provide thought leadership by challenging current way of operating to deliver best in class approaches
  • Be an in-house expert on how Data & Biddable advertising can provide ROI for clients
  • Guide and drive use of audience data to impact media strategies for client account(s) based on overall objectives
  • Understand how platform/data technologies work and offer the ability to explain technical concepts in ordinary terms (be technically savvy & understand the opportunities and limitations)
  • Connect a sound data strategy to client marketing technology and solutions to drive a more efficient and effective media approach
  • Identify opportunities and industry learning. Meet with vendors and provide a POV with a client lens and in desired format. Educate/evangelize the findings
  • Develop personalization strategy across all channels
  • Oversee, author and/or constructively edit and review the writing of media documents (timelines, POVs, client memos, and correspondence from within and outside the agency) as required for audience strategy function.
  • Share knowledge with client and internal teams regarding audience insights and results to impact business needs

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of Digital Media Planning, Buying, and Management experience in progressive levels of responsibility
  • Demonstrated business acumen and a track record of success in the media services profession
  • Strategic thinker, seeing the bigger picture, with ability to analyze everything and think critically when solving problems to produce unconventional solutions
  • Deep knowledge of audience building and activation across various platforms, including GWI, Epsilon, 3rd Party Data (3PD) solutions, and DSPs (Google DSP/DV360 priority).
  • Proven ability to excel and deliver results in a fast-paced, always-changing media and data environment.
  • Excellent oral, written and client presentation skills
  • Ability to effectively articulate vision to savvy, experienced digital clients and C-level executives
  • Must be a proactive doer and be able to navigate across Publicis and Client organizations to implement strategies
  • Strong track record managing multiple client verticals across a variety of third-party marketing measurement technology platforms
  • Strong project management skills and keen ability to delegate
  • Strong understanding of digital media planning and management processes
  • Experience or comfort with using LLMs/AI tools to accelerate workflow, research, and analysis.
  • Retail experience is a significant plus.
  • Global campaign experience is a plus.

Compensation Range: $129,485- $207,324 annually. This is the pay range the Company believes it will pay for this position at the time of this posting. Consistent with applicable law, compensation will be determined based on the skills, qualifications, and experience of the applicant along with the requirements of the position, and the Company reserves the right to modify this pay range at any time. Temporary roles may be eligible to participate in our freelancer/temporary employee medical plan through a third-party benefits administration system once certain criteria have been met. Temporary roles may also qualify for participation in our 401(k) plan after eligibility criteria have been met. For regular roles, the Company will offer medical coverage, dental, vision, disability, 401k, and paid time off.
