Company description

We’re a creative consultancy. That means we put creativity at the center of all our thinking—be it strategic consulting, design and advertising or product and service design. If you believe in the power of creativity to transform how people think and behave, you’re in the right place.

Overview

Leo Toronto is one of Canada’s highest-performing creative agencies – recognized for smart thinking, standout craft, and work that consistently earns industry attention. As we continue to raise the bar, we’re looking for a marketing leader who can help amplify our voice, elevate our creative reputation, and ensure the world sees the impact of the work we produce.

We’re hiring a Communications Director to champion the visibility of Leo Toronto’s work and strengthen our position as a world-class, award-driving creative agency. This role is responsible for building and executing strategies that amplify our ideas, showcase our craft, and ensure our work shows up in the right conversations—locally, nationally, and globally.

This is a senior, outward-facing role with a PR mindset, but seated within marketing and growth. You’ll be the connector between our creative output and the industry spaces where that work needs to be seen. You’ll promote Leo’s work, build thought-leadership platforms, manage relationships across media and industry influencers, and help our clients position their ideas for maximum cultural and award impact.

You will also work closely with our Grade A clients on how their brand stories can be shaped, shared, and elevated when connected to the work we produce together.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead Leo Toronto’s reputation strategy, ensuring our best work gains visibility in relevant press, media, cultural spaces, and industry publications.
  • Identify PR-worthy ideas early in the creative process and shape go-to-market storylines around them.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists, editors, trade publications, industry bodies, award shows, and cultural partners.
  • Create and oversee strategies for announcing new work, wins, leadership updates, and agency milestones.
  • Partner with creative, strategy, and new business teams to maximize the agency’s positioning in pitches, case studies, and award submissions.
  • Develop thought-leadership platforms and support agency leaders in speaking opportunities, panels, podcasts, and events.
  • Support clients in positioning the work we create together—crafting storylines and opportunities that elevate both their brand and Leo’s contribution.
  • Track cultural and industry trends to ensure Leo shows up in relevant conversations and maintains a future-forward profile.
  • Partner with our broader communications group to ensure alignment and avoid overlap, while carving out Leo Toronto’s distinct reputation strategy.
  • Manage measurement and reporting of visibility, traction, and impact.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years in PR, communications, marketing, or reputation strategy within a creative, media, or brand environment.
  • Deep industry knowledge and strong contacts across media, advertising press, cultural outlets, and award networks.
  • A proven ability to shape narratives around creative ideas and make work famous.
  • Ability to work seamlessly with creatives and strategists, spotting the “story” in the work and amplifying it.
  • Excellent writing, storytelling, and communication skills.
  • Strong strategic thinking with the ability to balance creativity and operational rigor.
  • A collaborative, team-first mentality and the confidence to lead conversations at senior levels.
  • Passion for culture, media, and the evolving landscape of earned creativity.

Why This Role Matters
Our work is world-class—now we need the world to see it. This role will help Leo Toronto amplify its creative reputation, strengthen its industry presence, and build the momentum that drives awards, growth, and long-term cultural impact.
