We are Nurun, an agency that lives at the crossroads of creativity and technology. We create digital experiences that help to grow brands and transform organizations. We are hybrids who organize our work around multi-disciplinary collaboration. Our vision: humans first, technology second. Always the same ingredients, but never the same recipe: we adapt ourselves as needed to ensure the excellence of our products.
We’re a large group of diverse professionals gathered across Toronto, Montreal, Quebec City, Windsor, and even Saskatchewan! Who are these professionals? We organize as teams of UX and UI designers, Developers, Client Partners, Project Managers, Strategists, and Business Designers (don’t worry, we’ll teach you what that is). Won’t you consider joining us?
Overview
We’re seeking a Senior Product Designer with deep expertise in UI systems, component architecture, and scalable design frameworks—someone who excels at designing end-to-end product UI flows and interactions with both the user and the code in mind. In this role, you’ll help lay the foundation for a new enterprise-grade design system for human-led AI products, establishing tokens, component libraries, interaction patterns, and documentation to support the entire product experience.
You’ll move fluidly between foundational system design and crafting high-fidelity product screens, leveraging advanced prototyping and motion design skills to bring interfaces to life. Your work will involve applying established brand language and design systems to create meaningful, delightful user interfaces that drive outcomes for the product, customers, and the brand.
This position is best suited for a technically-minded, detail-oriented designer who thrives on solving for consistency, scalability, and cross-functional alignment, rather than focusing on art direction or purely visual storytelling.
Responsibilities
Focus Areas:
Design System Architecture & Component Foundation: Build, maintain, and evolve the system of tokens, components, patterns, and documentation that will support the product needs. Ensure components are structured, accessible, responsive, and technically feasible.
Product UI Design & Interaction Patterns: Design end-to-end flows, high-fidelity screens, interactions, and prototypes using the design system. Translate complex workflows into clear, intuitive interfaces that support human-led AI interactions.
Technical UI Execution & Engineering Partnership: Work closely with engineering to ensure components are implemented accurately and sustainably. Provide clear specifications, understand technical constraints, and collaborate throughout build, QA, and iteration.
System Quality, Consistency & Accessibility: Uphold rigorous standards for visual quality, interaction design, and accessibility. Anticipate edge cases (content, languages, responsiveness) and ensure the system performs well across real-world scenarios.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Design Governance: Partner with Product, Engineering, and UX to align on requirements, priorities, and system evolution. Support adoption across teams, guide designers in using the system, and contribute to governance, workflows, and documentation.
Responsibilities:
- Elevate Craft Through Collaboration: Contribute thoughtful feedback, share best practices, and support other designers in producing high-quality UI work, especially when applying the design system.
- Champion User-Centered Design: Advocate for usability, accessibility, and inclusive design across product teams, ensuring decisions reflect real user needs and practical constraints.
- Contribute to a Healthy Design Culture: Model curiosity, collaboration, and experimentation. Promote a positive, growth-oriented environment by working transparently and constructively within the team.
- Maintain High Quality Standards: Ensure the UI delivered across components, screens, and flows meets a consistent level of rigor. Identify misalignments or system drift and help address them early.
- Translate Brand & Product Principles into UI: Interpret brand foundations, product goals, and interaction requirements into clear visual systems and coherent UI expressions.
- Partner Cross-Functionally: Work closely with engineering, product management, research, and AI partners to align on requirements, constraints, and implementation details. Facilitate smooth handoffs and shared understanding.
- Support Visual & Pattern Research: Explore visual directions, analyze patterns, and use data or research insights to inform system decisions and UI execution.
- Contribute to System Governance: Help shape processes for updating, reviewing, and evolving the design system. Document changes and usage guidelines to support team-wide adoption.
- Deliver High-Fidelity UI Work: Produce high-quality screens, interaction patterns, prototypes, and flows that demonstrate both craft and system thinking, especially during key delivery moments.
Qualifications
Key Qualifications:
- Experience: Demonstrated experience (5-8+ years) in leading UI execution and managing complex design projects, with a proven track record of delivering successful user experiences
- Design Leadership: Proven ability to influence, inspire, and mentor designers on visual systems and tools, fostering a high-performance culture.
- UCD Expertise: Extensive experience in user-centered design methodologies, with deep knowledge of UX principles, interaction design, and visual design.
- Strategic Vision: Ability to define and articulate a compelling design vision that aligns with business goals and market opportunities, translating objectives into tangible design outcomes and roadmaps.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Exceptional ability to partner effectively with engineering, product management, research, and marketing teams.
- Usability & Accessibility: Commitment to the highest standards of usability, accessibility, and inclusive design.
Preferred Qualifications:
- AI Product Experience: Exposure to AI-driven tools or complex software platforms, with an understanding of dynamic content, latency, and multi-state interaction patterns.
- Agile Collaboration: Experience working in Agile, cross-functional squads alongside engineering, product, and UX partners.
- Advanced Tooling: High proficiency in modern design tools, especially Figma, plus experience with prototyping tools for validating interactions.
- Comfort with Change: Ability to adapt to evolving requirements, technical direction changes, or system updates in fast-moving environments.
- Global & Multilingual Design: Awareness of how localization, text expansion, accessibility, and cultural considerations affect UI and components.
- Stakeholder Alignment: Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to articulate decisions clearly and work well with diverse stakeholder groups.
