Overview
The Digital Lab Technician supports day to day operations for the Data IO/Digital Lab department.
This role covers a night shift (3pm-midnight) and is fully on-site.
Responsibilities
- Create and upload editorial deliverables for dailies
- Create and QC final studio/network deliverables (DCP, KDM, IMF, QuickTime, etc.)
- LTO Restore, Render and QC for VFX pulls
- Encode to various codecs, framerates, and resolutions
- Operate video/audio encoding hardware and software
- Send/receive files over external networks and applications (Signiant, Aspera, Resilio)
- Perform and oversee data I/O
- Manage of SAN storage for various projects
- Collaborate with engineering department on research and development projects
- Setup and operate in-person or remote client playback screenings
- Archive projects internally and for client deliverables to LTO tapes
- Explore and apply AI tools to enhance creative workflows, from generating fresh content ideas to streamlining production tasks, while staying curious about emerging technologies that shape the future of storytelling
- Other duties, as required and assigned
Qualifications
- Familiarity with Colorfront Transkoder, Avid Media Composer, Adobe Premiere, DaVinci Resolve, Baselight/Daylight
- Proficiency in both Windows and Mac OS (proficiency in Linux is also desired but not required)
- Experience with command line interfaces
- Understanding of data integrity (knowledge of industry checksum practices desired)
- Experience with LTO tape backup software
- Understanding of video/signal routing
- Familiarity with video file types and videotape formats
- Technical knowledge of file compression formats and resolutions
- Ability to multi-task and manage time efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule to meet business requirements
- Strong English-language communication skills (written and verbal) and attention to detail
- Knowledge of digital cinema workflow, color spaces, camera types, and native camera file formats (preferred, but not required)
