Overview

The Director, SEO Web Lead, will drive the development and execution of client SEO initiatives. This individual will act as an embedded strategic partner, working directly with clients to provide hands-on tactical support and lead internal and external teams through execution. There will also be a cadence of onsite collaboration with the client (estimated 1-2x per month).

This position requires a hands-on director-level SEO expert with advanced project management skills, astute attention to process and detail, and who possesses the ability to develop and implement content and technical roadmaps and strategies. The Director is responsible for managing client relationships on a day-to-day basis and will manage an internal team of 3 across content and technical SEO. The Director must be fluent in technical SEO fundamentals and able to effectively communicate with development and engineering teams on technical SEO topics.

The Director is accountable for the implementation of SEO/content/technical execution and ensuring seamless delivery of best practices and processes. Proven account management and team leadership experience are essential, along with experience in online marketing and digital media.


Responsibilities

The Director will be accountable for the day-to-day SEO project management and execution of SEO work in partnership with client. Additionally, this individual will ensure that projects are completed timely and correctly.

• Account Management & Strategy

  • Own SEO strategies and campaigns end-to-end by creating roadmaps, prioritizing based on impact and effort, and aligning internal and external teams to execute against them.
  • Deliver actionable tactical and strategic insights that inform ongoing optimizations and future work, backed by performance data and search trends.
  • Proactively identify new opportunities to grow organic share of voice, rankings, traffic, and conversions
  • Maintain project trackers and participate in client partner statuses and reviews to provide SEO insights, POVs, and surface risk or blockers
  • Manage monthly SEO reporting (keyword rankings, SEO traffic, conversion data)
  • Work with all client partners to develop new processes that improve workflows and unlock efficiencies internally and externally
  • Stay up to date on newest organic search, paid search, and AI/GEO search trends
  • Research new ideas, trends and technologies within the SEO space and educate clients and the internal Spark team
  • Explain and present SEO best practices and strategies to client leadership in simple terms to educate client and third-party partners

• Content

  • Work with the client and/or internal team to develop SEO-informed content and keyword strategies to drive visibility and engagement across the web and other platforms.
  • Oversee and assume accountability of copywriting work to ensure copy is SEO-informed and adheres to standard processes and brand guidelines
  • Provide thought leadership on keyword research, on-page optimizations, body copy, as well as broader SEO and SEM strategies o Ensure content is optimized and structured for traditional and AI search visibility and performance

• Technical

  • Function as the bridge between client partners and the Technical SEO Lead on the account by confidently discussing technical SEO concepts and identifying when deeper technical expertise is needed
  • Work directly with the Technical SEO Lead to identify and advocate for technical SEO enhancements across site architecture, crawlability, scripts and CMS files, and page speed
  • Review and provide SEO input on technical specifications, product requirements, and platform changes to ensure SEO is integrated from the ground up.
  • Complete defined SEO tasks directly within the client’s CMS or platforms, including metadata updates, redirects, and on-page content adjustments.
  • Support the team in conducting technical SEO audits to identify issues with crawlability, indexation, duplication, or site speed, and deliver prioritized recommendations with clear implementation steps.

• People Management

This individual will be responsible for overseeing an internal team consisting of an Associate Director, Technical SEO Lead, and Analyst. The Director will also work with a Vice President and Senior Vice President. He/she/they will drive team productivity and growth by:

  • Providing training for new employees o Educating new employees about Spark and client-specific processes
  • Providing education on SEO landscape and best practices
  • Managing the Associate Director, Technical SEO Lead, and Analyst to allocate assignments so as to make productive and effective use of each person’s skills, while keeping team members motivated and challenged
  • Collaborate with internal media and strategy teams to improve efficiency and find opportunities
  • Providing ongoing feedback and conducting employee evaluations consistent with Sparks’ formal evaluation process
  • Participating in agency recruitment activities, including agency hiring practices o Educating clients, agency partners, and internal teams on search

• Client Management

At Spark, our clients are industry leaders and passionate about digital excellence. This specific Director is dedicated to a Fortune 500 company in the travel industry committed to organic search throughout the organization and will be the primary daily contact with the client, including but not limited to:

  • Managing day-to-day operations, deliverables, and communication for SEO campaigns
  • Finding opportunities for search visibility and performance enhancement
  • Optimization recommendations based on insights and analysis
  • Working with the internal team to master, identify, and communicate trends in search and in client industries
  • Spending time with the client onsite (estimated 1-2x per month)


Qualifications

  • 7+ years of SEO specific work experience and project management; client and agency experience preferred
  • Experience in the travel industry and online lead generation strongly preferred• Experience creating and owning content and technical SEO campaigns and multi-functional initiatives
  • Able to travel to client offices frequently (estimated 1-2x per month)
  • Technical knowledge/experience with the following:
    • XML sitemaps, Robots.txt, HTTP responses and headers, and URL redirects
    • Content management systems and knowledge of HTML, XML, JavaScript, Flash, and CSS as they relate to SEO and Page Speed/Core Web Vitals o Common server-side scripting methods such as PHP
  • Dynamic content-generating scripts and database integration scripts like jQuery, AJAX and JSON
  • Understanding of user experience best practices
  • Knowledge of lead generation clients and SEO tactics necessary to generate conversions
  • Experience in applying SEO to brand-building, direct response and reputation management initiatives • Experience with leading SEO, web analytics and search research tools and technologies, such as:
    • SEO: Semrush, Moz, BrightEdge, Conductor, etc.
    • Web Analytics: Adobe Analytics, Omniture, CoreMetrics, GSC, Google Analytics, Web Trends, etc.
    • Research Tools: ComScore, eMarketer, Nielsen, Hitwise, etc.
  • Experience and understanding of paid search and other forms of digital media
  • Ability to work with multi-functional teams and individually to get results
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs particularly Excel and Power Point
  • Experience working with large, complex organizations with multiple partners
  • Solid project management skills and attention to detail
  • Strong analytical skills

Compensation Range: $119,510- $171,675 annually. This is the pay range the Company believes it will pay for this position at the time of this posting. Consistent with applicable law, compensation will be determined based on the skills, qualifications, and experience of the applicant along with the requirements of the position, and the Company reserves the right to modify this pay range at any time. Temporary roles may be eligible to participate in our freelancer/temporary employee medical plan through a third-party benefits administration system once certain criteria have been met. Temporary roles may also qualify for participation in our 401(k) plan after eligibility criteria have been met.
