We are executing a large-scale modernization initiative for a leading and well-known client in the healthcare industry. The goal is to migrate a legacy platform built on COBOL, RPG, and DB2 to a modern architecture using Databricks, React, and MongoDB. The project involves extracting data and business logic from legacy programs, converting it into JSON format, and integrating it into modern cloud-based systems.

As part of this transformation, We are seeking a COBOL and RPG Subject Matter Expert (SME) to lead the analysis, documentation, and transformation of legacy code and data structures. You will play a critical role in bridging legacy and modern systems, working alongside a multidisciplinary team of Java, Python, and QA engineers to ensure accurate migration of business logic and data.

Responsibilities

Your Impact:

  • Analyze and document existing COBOL and RPG programs, including business logic, batch/online flows, and system interactions.

  • Understand, map, and document DB2 data structures and relationships.

  • Collaborate with engineering teams to define data extraction and transformation strategies.

  • Guide the conversion of legacy data into JSON format for ingestion into MongoDB and Databricks.

  • Serve as the technical lead and SME for all COBOL and RPG-related activities and inquiries.

  • Support QA and development teams in validating the completeness and accuracy of the migrated systems.

  • Identify risks and dependencies in legacy code and propose effective mitigation strategies.

Qualifications

Your Skills and Experience:

  • 8+ years of experience in COBOL development, including both batch and online processing.

  • 5+ years of experience with RPG (RPG III, IV, or Free Format).

  • Deep expertise in DB2 and legacy relational data modeling.

  • Proven experience in legacy system modernization or data migration projects.

  • Proven ability to reverse-engineer and interpret complex legacy codebases.

  • Familiarity with JSON, ETL processes, and modern data formats.

  • Excellent communication and documentation skills, with the ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.

Additional information

Set Yourself Apart With:

  • Experience in projects involving MongoDB, Databricks, or cloud-based data platforms.

  • Exposure to modern development practices and data engineering concepts.

  • Prior involvement in greenfield system redesigns or technology transformation programs.
