Overview
We are executing a large-scale modernization initiative for a leading and well-known client in the healthcare industry. The goal is to migrate a legacy platform built on COBOL, RPG, and DB2 to a modern architecture using Databricks, React, and MongoDB. The project involves extracting data and business logic from legacy programs, converting it into JSON format, and integrating it into modern cloud-based systems.
As part of this transformation, We are seeking a COBOL and RPG Subject Matter Expert (SME) to lead the analysis, documentation, and transformation of legacy code and data structures. You will play a critical role in bridging legacy and modern systems, working alongside a multidisciplinary team of Java, Python, and QA engineers to ensure accurate migration of business logic and data.
Responsibilities
Your Impact:
Analyze and document existing COBOL and RPG programs, including business logic, batch/online flows, and system interactions.
Understand, map, and document DB2 data structures and relationships.
Collaborate with engineering teams to define data extraction and transformation strategies.
Guide the conversion of legacy data into JSON format for ingestion into MongoDB and Databricks.
Serve as the technical lead and SME for all COBOL and RPG-related activities and inquiries.
Support QA and development teams in validating the completeness and accuracy of the migrated systems.
Identify risks and dependencies in legacy code and propose effective mitigation strategies.
Qualifications
Your Skills and Experience:
8+ years of experience in COBOL development, including both batch and online processing.
5+ years of experience with RPG (RPG III, IV, or Free Format).
Deep expertise in DB2 and legacy relational data modeling.
Proven experience in legacy system modernization or data migration projects.
Proven ability to reverse-engineer and interpret complex legacy codebases.
Familiarity with JSON, ETL processes, and modern data formats.
Excellent communication and documentation skills, with the ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.
