Job Summary
Bamboo Insurance is seeking a Director of Pricing to lead and grow our Actuarial Pricing Team. This key leadership role will be responsible for overseeing the strategic pricing function across our insurance programs and driving profitable growth through analytical excellence, leadership development, and innovation. The Director will lead rate adequacy evaluations, drive regulatory pricing strategies, and foster a high-performance team culture. We are looking for a credentialed actuary (FCAS) with deep, hands-on homeowners insurance experience, proven leadership capabilities, and a strong grasp of both admitted and non-admitted pricing strategy. A passion for innovation is essential—this includes identifying and incorporating new rating variables, exploring advanced modeling techniques such as machine learning, and leveraging external data sources to continuously improve pricing accuracy and segmentation.

Duties/Responsibilities
- Lead, develop, and grow a high-performing actuarial pricing team, providing mentorship and coaching to foster career development.
- Drive the pricing strategy across Bamboo’s homeowners insurance programs (admitted and E&S), ensuring rate adequacy and alignment with company goals.
- Build and manage Bamboo’s actuarial internship program, including recruiting, mentoring, and rotational planning.
- Establish and refine processes for performance monitoring, competitive analysis, and loss ratio management.
- Ensure regulatory compliance of rate filings, with a deep understanding of the evolving California regulatory landscape.
- Champion innovation in pricing by exploring and implementing new rating variables, alternative data sources, and more sophisticated modeling techniques to enhance risk segmentation and predictive accuracy.
- Promote a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and collaboration within the Pricing team
- Strategic thinker with deep technical expertise and business acumen.
- Strong leadership and team-building capabilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially with executive audiences.
- Expertise in building, validating, and refining actuarial pricing models.
- Strong project management and prioritization abilities.
- Advanced proficiency in actuarial tools and programming (e.g., Excel, SQL, R/Python, Radar, etc.).
- Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Data Science, or a related field.
- Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) required.
- At least 15 years of actuarial pricing experience, including 5+ years in a leadership or people management role.
- Deep knowledge of homeowners insurance pricing, especially in catastrophe-exposed markets like California & Texas.
- Experience pricing both admitted and surplus lines (E&S) products.
- Proven success leading teams, building actuarial infrastructure, and executing strategic initiatives.
- Experience managing a portfolio to targeted PML to premium ratios, loss ratios or any other internal targets.
- Experience evaluating reinsurance towers to support the overall profitability of the product and company.
- Prior experience launching successful new programs
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Travel: 10% Travel
- Work Environment: Remote and 10% travel
