Job Summary

The VP of Underwriting will oversee day-to-day underwriting to ensure profitable growth in the state of Texas and develop the appropriate underwriting processes for proper risk selection. Will collaborate with the VP of Product Management TX to establish underwriting guidelines and risk controls via the underwriting model. Functionality will include creating straight-thru-process rules, inspection guidelines, and underwriting vendor selection with expertise in the Texas market. The position also collaborate with the VP of Underwriting CA to promote consistency within the overall underwriting function and leverage consistent processes for economies of scale.

Duties/Responsibilities

• Build a new underwriting team for both admitted and E&S products.
• Oversees the daily workflow of the department.
• Institutes the appropriate processes that balance detailed risk review and expense.
• Provide strategic oversight into overall risk selection and individual property reviews.
• Conduct underwriting portfolio reviews to determine worse performing segments for additional controls or non-renewals.
• Performs other related duties as assigned

Required Education And Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience.
• 15+ years of personal lines underwriting and/or product management experience.
• Current license credentials or certification.
• Supervisory experience, managing a team of at least four direct reports.
  
  

Preferred Requirements

• 10+ years of homeowners’ line of business experience.
  
  

Physical Requirements

• Will require monthly travel with some additional travel depending on business needs.
• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  
  

Salary: Starting at $180k + bonus opportunity. Candidate's skills, experience, and abilities will be taken into consideration for final offer.
