Job Overview:
The Tax Accountant role is a new position in the Corporate Accounting and Finance Department. Reporting to the Tax Manager, this position will help assist and prepare quarterly tax provisions, estimated tax distribution calculations, estimated tax payments, state and local income tax return preparation, year-end tax provisions and indirect tax returns.
The position will also perform an array of cross functional accounting duties related to tax including account reconciliations and journal entries as well as assisting with budgeting for other tax related transactions. Candidate must have a strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and tax related issues of corporations as well as partnerships. This position is an excellent opportunity to gain exposure to a wide array of business processes, concepts, and cross functional departments.
Duties to include, but not limited to:
* Assist in preparation of quarterly and year-end tax provisions and SEC financial statement disclosures
* Prepare monthly tax related journal entries and account reconciliations as needed
* Help perform and execute on internal controls surrounding tax processes
* Assist in processes to calculate estimated tax distributions and projections
* Help gather necessary Company data and information to assist in the process of completing the annual corporate and partnership Federal, state and local tax returns
* Prepare state and local Income Tax, Sales & Use, B&O, Property and other indirect tax return filings as needed
* Assist the Tax Manager in IRS and state/local tax examination and correspondence
* Assist the Tax Manager in developing the tax impacts on forward-looking, predictive models and activity-based financial analyses to provide insight into the company’s cash management needs, operations, and business plans
* Maintain and track the Company’s tax filing calendar
* Work closely with the Tax Manager and department leaders to provide timely, value added support in the application and understanding of tax accounting methods for related business transactions. Compile information from multiple subsidiaries to enable timely tax filings
* Gather financial information and assist in the tax filings for various reporting requirements (Form 1099-NEC/MISC, Form 1042, and FBAR filings)
* Coordinate the timely processing of income tax payments for return filings as well as estimated taxes with the Accounts Payable team
* Understand, research and analyze moderate to complex tax concepts and their application to Company situations
* Monitor and evaluate changes in tax legislation to gauge the impact on the overall Company
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Excellent computer skills, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong work ethic and professionalism
Preferred Qualifications:
- CPA or CPA Eligible
- Master’s Degree
- Tax coursework and/or professional tax compliance experience
- Attention to detail and a self-starter
- Excellent project management and organizational skills
- Strong understanding of complex partnership and corporate tax issues
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
