Imagine being part of a team that’s not just making technology but making a real difference in people’s lives. At Oracle, we’re passionate about using our expertise, innovation, and global reach to redefine what’s possible in healthcare. This isn’t just a career—it’s an opportunity to help shape the future of an industry that affects everyone, including you and your loved ones. If you’re ready to turn your talent and drive into positive change, join us and help transform healthcare for the better.

What you’ll do

Are you excited by the challenge of transforming healthcare technology? Oracle Health’s Design and Human Factors Research teams are embarking on a bold new mission to completely reimagine the experience of our healthcare applications—from core EHR systems to the patient journey and everything in between.

Oracle’s User Experience (UX) organization is seeking a Manager of Human Factors Research (HF) who will lead a team of Researchers as they apply human factors principles, standards, and research methods to ensure Oracle products are safe, useful, usable, and enjoyable to use. We are seeking someone who has a positive and motivating attitude and has a desire to nurture a team to be and do their best so that they consistently deliver high quality research that advances the usability and user experience of our products. Ideal candidates care about team commitment, culture, and well-being, and possess a ‘we’ over ‘me’ collaborative approach!

This is a hands-on management role. As a Manager of Human Factors Research, you will:

  • Guide a talented team of researcher while also personally conducting your own research; lead evaluations and usability initiatives from concept through delivery.
  • Partner closely with product teams, engineers, clinical subject-matter experts, and design researchers to embed human factors engineering principles throughout the product lifecycle—from early requirements through deployment and real-world evaluation.
  • Apply your human factors expertise, your knowledge of principles and standards, and the most effective research methods to tackle diverse and important challenges in healthcare technology.
  • Take a scientific, empirical approach to research that is rigorous, standardized, and peer-reviewed—while also leaving room for creativity and innovation.
  • Ensure that all activities meet regulatory standards and support best-in-class quality and safety for our products.

Manager, Human Factors Research tasks and responsibilities

  • Serve as both a player and a coach—leading a team while also directly performing research studies and other research activities
  • Exercise outstanding written and verbal communication skills. You are a storyteller with the ability to distill insights into easily consumable formats, for different audiences, that promote understanding and action.
  • Collaborate with product management, engineering, and design leads to apply human-centered design practices and ensure compliance with regulatory standards for medical devices (e.g., FDA human factors guidance, ISO 14971, ISO 62366, etc.).
  • Manage a small team of researchers with varying degrees of professional, industry, and research methods experience.
  • Guide and mentor this team of researchers who conduct quantitative and qualitative research studies, in part by reviewing work and providing clear and concise constructive feedback.
  • Monitor and assist associates in regulating their workload and priorities. You will support the execution of the team’s day-to-day work to achieve goals, deadlines, and quality standards for research deliverables.
  • Advance team objectives and communicate team goals that support improvement initiatives.
  • Handle conflict situations effectively, in a timely manner, and facilitate a plan for resolution.
  • Lead by example, serve as a role model for associates on the team, and promote knowledge sharing and collaboration.

Here’s the kind of person we are looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Ergonomics, Human-Computer Interaction, Industrial Engineering, Informatics or related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in human factors, usability engineering, or UX research in complex product or system environments.
  • 2+ years in a people management role with “hiring and firing” responsibilities.
  • Proven ability to balance strategic leadership with hands-on execution of research and usability activities.
  • Demonstrated experience with human factors work in regulated industries (healthcare, medical devices, enterprise systems) and familiarity with applicable standards.
  • Strong track record of usability testing methodologies, heuristic evaluations, task/workflow analyses, and human error or risk assessments.
  • Excellent communication, influencing, and collaboration skills—able to articulate human factors insights to executive stakeholders, product teams, and engineers.
  • Experience working in cross-functional, agile software development environments and managing human factors activities across multiple projects.
  • Analytical mindset, comfortable with both qualitative and quantitative data (e.g., user metrics, error rates, adoption/usage analytics).
  • Experience building or scaling human factors/UX teams, mentoring staff, and setting performance or training programs.

Preferred qualifications

  • M.S. or Ph.D. degree in Psychology, Industrial Engineering, Human Factors, Experimental Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Usability Engineering, Information Sciences, Industrial Engineering, Human-Computer Interaction, or related field.
  • Previous experience in healthcare IT, EHR systems, or clinical workflows.
  • Experience with conversational UI, AI-powered systems, or complex enterprise applications.
  • Advanced certification (e.g., Certified Professional Ergonomist (CPE) or Certified Human Factors Professional (CHFP)).
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG, Section 508) and inclusive design practices.
  • Familiarity with regulatory standards (e.g., FDA human factors guidance, ISO 14971, ISO 62366, etc.).
  • Familiarity with research platforms and tools such as: UserZoom, User Testing, dScout, QDA tools, and Qualtrics.

Other expectations

  • This position is based in the United States and offers flexibility for remote or hybrid work, depending on team and business needs.
  • This position recommends availability between 8am-5pm Central Time.
