As a Principal Software Development Engineer (IC4), you will take ownership of designing, implementing, and operating core components of our streaming infrastructure—driving scalability, resiliency, and low-latency performance across distributed environments. You will lead major features and services through the full development lifecycle, from architecture and design to deployment, observability, and production operations.
In this role, you are expected to provide technical leadership, mentor junior engineers, and influence engineering best practices across the team. You’ll bring deep experience in distributed systems, strong programming fundamentals, and a mindset focused on operational excellence and continuous improvement. This position offers the opportunity to shape key architectural decisions, guide the evolution of our platform, and help develop the next generation of OCI’s cloud infrastructure.

Range and benefit information provided in this posting are specific to the stated locations only
US: Hiring Range in USD from: $96,800 to $223,400 per annum. May be eligible for bonus and equity.
Oracle maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions and locations, as well as reflect Oracle’s differing products, industries and lines of business.
Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.

8. Paid time off: Flexible Vacation is provided to all eligible employees assigned to a salaried (non-overtime eligible) position. Accrued Vacation is provided to all other employees eligible for vacation benefits. For employees working at least 35 hours per week, the vacation accrual rate is 13 days annually for the first three years of employment and 18 days annually for subsequent years of employment. Vacation accrual is prorated for employees working between 20 and 34 hours per week. Employees working fewer than 20 hours per week are not eligible for vacation.

What You’ll Do
- Lead the design, development, and operation of core features and services for our streaming platform, ensuring production-grade performance, durability, and efficiency at scale.
- Own end-to-end delivery of complex projects—requirements, architecture, implementation, testing, rollout, monitoring, and ongoing operations.
- Debug high-impact production issues, elevate observability and instrumentation, and drive improvements to operational maturity across the platform.
- Mentor and guide junior and mid-level engineers, providing code reviews, design coaching, and knowledge-sharing to elevate the technical bar.
- Drive reliability, automation, and process optimization initiatives, including tooling, CI/CD improvements, configuration management, and architectural simplification.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to influence product direction, communicate tradeoffs, and align on platform-level technical decisions.
- 8+ years of hands-on software development experience in distributed systems, infrastructure platforms, or cloud services.
- Deep proficiency in at least one major programming languages- Java and Python ( or similar), with a strong track record of shipping and owning production services.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems concepts—streaming ingestion and delivery, partitioning, fault tolerance, consensus, performance tuning, and observability.
- Able to drive architectural decisions by analyzing tradeoffs across latency, throughput, durability, consistency, and cost.
- Highly skilled in debugging complex distributed systems, interpreting logs/metrics/traces, and identifying systemic root causes.
- Effective mentor and team-level technical leader who influences engineering culture, supports peers, and fosters shared technical excellence.
- Experience in large-scale streaming
- Familiarity with event-driven systems, time-series semantics, and high-throughput data pipelines.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes), and modern observability stacks (metrics, logs, tracing).
- Background in incident management, operational readiness reviews, SRE practices, or reliability engineering for distributed systems.
