Job Description
OCI's Compute Control Plane is the central nervous system of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. Our services enable customers to manage the global compute resources that power their businesses. We provide high-availability APIs and backend systems that monitor, heal, and scale infrastructure fleets across regions, automatically and securely.
We are looking for a strong engineer to help us build and evolve this platform. You will work on core systems that are critical to the stability, scalability, and security of OCI’s Compute service.
What You'll Work On:
- High-availability APIs for launching and managing compute resources, supported by complex asynchronous workflows
- Globally scalable systems that operate reliably across OCI’s worldwide cloud regions
- Security-first architecture, including deep integration with OCI’s Identity and Access Management (IAM) platform
You will collaborate with experienced engineers to solve challenging problems in scale, security, automation, and performance. Your work will directly support our customers and help shape the future of OCI.
This position is expected to be onsite full time in Nashville, TN. This is not a remote position.
Responsibilities
As a member of the OCI Compute Control Plane team, you’ll design, debug, and build customer-facing features for a critical part of OCI. You’ll identify opportunities to improve system performance and reliability, and when needed, refactor existing code to better support evolving use cases. You’ll contribute to architectural discussions, help drive technical direction, and support other engineers through thoughtful code reviews and collaboration.
This role is primarily focused on backend service development, with an emphasis on scalable architecture, high availability, and long-term maintainability. You'll work across the stack of infrastructure and automation, and your work will be essential to both internal and external customers.
You’ll be responsible for:
- Designing and implementing backend services that are secure, scalable, and maintainable
- Participating in architecture and design reviews
- Writing clean, testable, and well-documented code
- Debugging complex distributed systems
- Contributing to DevOps and service automation
- Collaborating with engineers across OCI through written design docs and technical discussions
You’ll succeed in this role if you have:
- Strong programming skills in at least one major language (Java, Go, Python, etc.)
- Familiarity with a scripting language and Linux shell scripting (e.g., Bash)
- A solid understanding of Linux systems fundamentals
- Knowledge of relational databases and distributed systems concepts
- Experience debugging and testing complex services
- Clear communication skills, especially in writing - collaborative design through documentation is highly valued at OCI
Qualifications

US: Hiring Range in USD from: $79,800 to $178,100 per annum. May be eligible for bonus and equity.
Oracle maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions and locations, as well as reflect Oracle’s differing products, industries and lines of business.
Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.

8. Paid time off: Flexible Vacation is provided to all eligible employees assigned to a salaried (non-overtime eligible) position. Accrued Vacation is provided to all other employees eligible for vacation benefits. For employees working at least 35 hours per week, the vacation accrual rate is 13 days annually for the first three years of employment and 18 days annually for subsequent years of employment. Vacation accrual is prorated for employees working between 20 and 34 hours per week. Employees working fewer than 20 hours per week are not eligible for vacation.
