ABOUT THE JOB
The Art Manager leads, develops, and inspires the Art Team's careers, processes, and resources. You will manage the workforce planning and communication process with other disciplines. This role will also directly manage a portion of the art team, supporting the studio art director in people management duties.
Responsibilities:
Team Management
Manage a group of direct reports. Partners with the studio art director to hire, onboard, support, and evaluate incoming artists.
Support and work with the Studio Art Director on team management and projects. Identify areas of improvement and create plans to drive art team success.
Motivate and support the art team, freelancers, and external vendors. Mentor the team art leads and identify skill gaps. Help them grow in their career and develop skills.
Initiate training programs to improve the quality standards of the artists in the studio.
Functional
Partner with the production team and project art leads on resourcing, tasking, processes, prioritization, and risk assessment.
Support project leads and individual contributors in planning project work through a proactive approach to avoid misalignment or inaccurate planning.
Organize, plan, and coordinate art team communication rituals (one-on-ones, team meetings, etc.). Work with other disciplines and art stakeholders to ensure a high-quality bar, consistent alignment, and effective communication.
Manage assets of archived and current production art.
Skills & Requirements
5+ years of experience managing an art team of direct reports and project management experience in games.
Understanding of game development, art processes, methodologies, and pipelines.
Proficient with art and project management tools like Google Suite, Jira, Confluence, Miro, Figma, Adobe Suite, Maya, Unity, etc.
Strong demonstrated leadership, communication, problem-solving, feedback, and artistic/creative skills.
Knowledge and passion for game technology trends, willingness to explore uncertainty, and lead through change.
Lifelong learner who wants to bring experience and knowledge to the project and team every day.
Self-starter willing to find solutions and ask questions when needed.
Nice to Haves
Experience guiding game art teams through early creative development, through shipping, and post-launch support.
Proficiency in creating and planning art assets; experience working as an artist on game projects of any size.
Generally, our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top of market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $230,000-$410,000.
