Salary range: $115,000 to $155,000

DUTIES: Design, build, and maintain applications and services that power tax computation, withholding, and reporting for Justworks customers. Build the taxation applications and services that power Justworks’ payroll products. Take ownership in technical decision making on a mission-critical team and work closely with our product and operations stakeholders to ensure we are enabling the Payments and Tax Unit to scale its operations. Scale and improve performance of mission-critical systems that require a high degree of accuracy. Build reliable and resilient integrations with external systems for reporting taxes to federal, state, and local tax agencies. Take an active role in project planning, including translating product requirements into deliverable pieces and sequencing them in a manner that delivers value to the business. Work collaboratively with engineers, product managers, and stakeholders to bring new products and features to our customers. Develop deep subject matter expertise in payroll taxation so that our customers and operations stakeholders don’t have to. Channel empathy for our internal stakeholders to create better user experiences with an eye towards making workflows easier and more efficient. Perform other related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field required. Three years of experience working as a software engineer on production code. Three years of experience with Computer Science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, systems architecture, and object-oriented programming. Three years experience with a server-side language (i.e. Ruby, Python, or JavaScript), with SQL and relational database schema design. One year of experience with building integrations with third-party systems that have insufficient documentation and/or use legacy protocols, and with building resilient and maintainable systems in complicated business domains at scale. Must be able to work a hybrid work arrangement with Tuesdays and Thursdays required in office.

Must have legal authority to work in the U.S. EEOE.

Actual compensation is based on multiple factors that are unique to each candidate, including and not limited to skill set, level of relevant experience, and specific work location. Salary ranges for positions based in other locations may differ based on the cost of labor in that location.
