Job Description
Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled Mechatronics / Mechanical Engineer to join our automation team. The ideal candidate will have strong proficiency in CAD design for robotic End-of-Arm Tooling (EOAT) and full automation machinery design, along with hands-on experience in mechanical fabrication and manufacturing processes. This role involves designing mechanical components, supporting automation projects, and collaborating closely with the Senior Automation Engineer.
Key Responsibilities:
- Robotic Automation System Design and Development:
- Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies using SolidWorks and AutoCAD, including robotic EOAT and automation machinery.
- Craft, refine, and manage robotic systems, encompassing mechanical, electrical, and software elements.
- Create detailed 3D models, technical drawings, and documentation for manufacturing.
- Operations:
- Operate and maintain fabrication equipment such as 3D printers, laser cutters, and CNC machines.
- Manage mechanical fabrication projects, including budget planning and cost control.
- Support prototype development and testing for automation projects.
- Programming and Control:
- Assist in panel design basics, including product selection for power supplies, motor drives, and protective devices.
- Devise and enact control algorithms for robotic handling and trajectory planning.
- Develop, test, and refine software for diverse robotic applications.
- Fine-tune systems for peak performance, precision, and cost-efficiency
- System Integration:
- Facilitate the smooth incorporation of robotic systems within commercial laboratory settings.
- Construct interfaces and communication protocols to integrate with other machinery/instruments and Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
- Diagnose and remedy any integration-related complications.
- User Interface (UI) Design:
- Develop intuitive User Interfaces (UI) that streamline process management for automated systems.
- Apply UL 508A standards for electrical panel design and integration.
- Testing and Validation:
- Perform exhaustive testing and validation of robotic systems to certify compliance with performance, quality, and safety benchmarks.
- Interpret data and refine design and controls based on feedback.
- Conduct safety risk assessments and ensure compliance with ergonomic principles in design.
- Documentation:
- Generate and sustain comprehensive technical documentation, such as design outlines, operational manuals, and troubleshooting procedures for robotic systems.
- Other:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure design feasibility and manufacturability.
- Travel up to 40% for project support, installations, and troubleshooting.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, or related field.
- 3+ years of industry experience in mechanical design and manufacturing processes.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and other CAD tools for automation machinery and EOAT design.
- Hands-on experience with 3D printing, laser cutting, and CNC machining.
- Basic understanding of electrical panel design and component selection.
- Strong budget management skills for mechanical fabrication.
- Knowledge of safety risk assessment, ergonomics, and UL 508A compliance.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
- Eagerness to thrive in a fast-paced and ever-evolving work environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with robotics and automation systems
- Skilled in programming languages like C++, Python, and familiar with ROS.
- Experience with Program Logic Control (PLC) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) programming is desirable
- Familiarity with industrial standards and safety practices.
