Job Description
This role is ideal for candidates with strong microbiology expertise and hands-on experience in environmental monitoring (EM). The Microbiology Operations Supervisor will lead second-shift operations, ensuring high-quality microbiological testing, EM sampling, and compliance with GMP standards. The position combines technical oversight with team leadership to drive operational excellence in a regulated lab environment.
Key Responsibilities
Microbiology & Environmental Monitoring Focus
- Oversee and perform environmental monitoring activities including sampling of compressed gases, water systems, and cleanroom environments.
- Conduct microbial identification procedures and acceptance testing of commercially prepared microbiological culture media.
- Maintain and analyze the microbiological productivity database, generating monthly metrics and trend reports.
- Lead laboratory investigations related to microbiological deviations and prepare detailed reports.
- Ensure proper calibration and maintenance of microbiology lab equipment.
- Review and verify microbiological data, ensuring accuracy and compliance with quality standards.
- Utilize LIMS to manage sample tracking, test results, and reporting metrics.
Leadership & Operational Oversight
- Supervise and mentor microbiology analysts and group leaders, fostering a culture of quality and continuous improvement.
- Manage onboarding, training, and development of new hires with a focus on microbiological techniques and EM protocols.
- Coordinate scheduling, task allocation, and overtime planning for second-shift operations.
- Apply Lean principles to optimize lab workflows and reduce inefficiencies.
- Serve as a liaison between internal teams and external clients, ensuring timely communication and project execution.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Life Sciences, or a related scientific field.
- Minimum 3 years of microbiology laboratory experience, including environmental monitoring in a GMP-regulated setting.
- At least 3 years of experience leading teams in technical or laboratory environments.
- Strong understanding of microbiological testing, EM protocols, and lab compliance standards.
- Proven ability to coach and develop staff, manage lab operations, and drive performance.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without restriction or sponsorship.

Additional Details:
This is a full-time, onsite position based on a second shift schedule (Monday through Friday, 2 pm- 10:30 pm), with occasional weekends and overtime required as needed. Candidates located within a commutable distance to Rensselaer, NY, are strongly encouraged to apply.
