Job Description

This position plays a vital role in supporting both microbiology laboratory operations and team leadership within a regulated technical environment. The successful candidate will oversee daily lab activities, ensure adherence to quality and compliance standards, and provide guidance to team members to achieve performance goals. This role requires a dynamic balance of hands-on microbiological expertise and strategic leadership to drive continuous improvement and operational efficiency.

Microbiology Laboratory Responsibilities

  • Manage microbiology training programs and ensure cGMP compliance.
  • Lead investigations for OOS results, contamination, and EM excursions.
  • Oversee environmental monitoring of cleanrooms, gases, and water systems.
  • Coordinate calibration and maintenance of microbiology lab equipment.
  • Review microbiological data (e.g., bioburden, endotoxin, sterility) for accuracy.
  • Use LIMS to track samples, results, and generate reports.
  • Maintain productivity metrics and issue monthly performance summaries.
  • Conduct media qualification and microbial identification as needed.

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Lead microbiology teams in a regulated lab or manufacturing setting.
  • Promote a culture of quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Manage scheduling, onboarding, and training of lab personnel.
  • Oversee weekend/overtime coverage and daily lab operations.
  • Mentor group leaders and support their professional development.
  • Drive efficiency using Lean principles.
  • Participate in hiring and team-building initiatives.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Life Sciences, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related scientific field; or an equivalent combination of education and directly relevant experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience leading teams in a laboratory or technical environment.
  • At least 3 years of hands-on laboratory experience, preferably in a cGMP-regulated setting.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without restriction or sponsorship.

Additional Details:

This is a full-time, onsite position based on a second shift schedule (Monday through Friday, 2 pm-3 pm), with occasional weekends and overtime required as needed. Candidates located within a commutable distance to Rensselaer, NY, are strongly encouraged to apply.
