Make Your Mark on the Most Critical Part of the Customer Journey
The Risk & Compliance team is the backbone of BILL’s trusted payment ecosystem. We're looking for a Lead Product Manager to own the most crucial first impression our customers have: the onboarding experience. This is not a generalist risk role; your focus will be on building and optimizing the product capabilities that allow us to safely, quickly, and seamlessly welcome new customers to our platform. You will be the strategic owner of the risk and compliance aspects of our onboarding flows. Your mission is to strike the perfect balance between a frictionless user experience and the robust controls necessary to protect our customers and our business in a complex regulatory landscape. If you are passionate about solving the complex puzzles of identity, verification, and risk assessment at the point of entry, this is the role for you.
- Own the Onboarding Risk Strategy: Define and drive the product vision, strategy, and roadmap for all risk and compliance controls within the customer onboarding journey, from initial sign-up to full platform access.
- Build a Seamless & Secure Experience: Lead cross-functional pods of engineers, designers, and data scientists to launch and iterate on features for identity verification (IDV), Know Your Customer (KYC), Know Your Business (KYB), and initial fraud screening.
- Balance Speed and Safety: Obsess over metrics related to customer drop-off, time-to-onboard, and risk-decision accuracy. Use data-driven insights to remove friction for good customers while strengthening defenses against bad actors.
- Partner Across the Business: Collaborate closely with our Operations, Legal, and Go-to-Market teams to ensure your product solutions are not only compliant but also operationally efficient and supportive of business growth.
- Stay Ahead of the Curve: Deeply understand the evolving landscape of fintech regulation, fraud tactics, and identity solutions to proactively address emerging risks and build for the future.
- Communicate with Impact: Clearly articulate your roadmap, product decisions, and performance results to stakeholders and executive leadership.
- A Deep Background in Onboarding: 6+ years in product management, with a significant portion of that time dedicated to building and optimizing risk and compliance controls specifically within customer onboarding flows. You’ve lived and breathed the challenges of KYC, identity verification, and creating low-friction sign-up experiences.
- Fintech or Payments Risk Expertise: Direct, hands-on experience in the risk and/or compliance domain within a payments, lending, or fintech company. You understand the regulatory requirements (e.g., BSA/AML) and common fraud vectors in this space.
- Data-Driven Decision Making: Strong analytical skills with a proven ability to use data and user research to identify opportunities, make difficult trade-offs, and drive product strategy.
- Exceptional Collaboration Skills: A track record of leading high-performing, cross-functional teams and managing complex stakeholder relationships (especially with Legal, Compliance, and Operations).
- A Problem-Solver’s Mindset: You are adept at navigating ambiguity, breaking down complex problems into actionable steps, and delivering solutions in a fast-paced environment.
