This role requires a unique skillset.
The ideal candidate must not only bring the legal experience and drive needed to thrive in a fast-paced organization, but also strong business acumen to be able to assess real-world risk and provide practical, strategic guidance. Reporting to and working with DISQO’s Chief Legal Officer, you will be a trusted partner to all teams within DISQO, having a critical impact on the entirety of the business.
What you get to do:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and serve as a key point of contact to provide legal support for all aspects of the business
- Work on significant and essential transactions and programs such as privacy, regulatory and compliance, U.S. and international business partnerships
- Draft, review, and negotiate master agreements with enterprise customers and work closely with our Sales organization to close high value revenue deals
- Develop creative solutions to support business needs while mitigating risk in a constantly evolving industry and with complex and evolving legal regulations
- Support consumer privacy initiatives, such as those related to GDPR, CCPA, and COPPA, including the management of a worldwide privacy program for both end user facing services and clients
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of policies, forms, trainings, and processes to ensure operational efficiency and compliance with US, European, and other international laws and regulations
- Draft and negotiate contracts, including strategic partnership agreements, with the ability to solve problems effectively and efficiently in a business-friendly manner and fast-paced environment
- Partner with internal teams to review new uses of personal data to ensure compliance with applicable data protection laws and best industry practices.
- Remain up-to-date and advise on relevant industry, consumer protection, advertising, IP, and privacy and data security laws, regulations and developments to provide an ongoing ability to provide sound legal and compliance advice.
- Ensure compliance with US and international laws and regulations dealing with privacy, data protection, content regulation, consumer protection, accessibility, cybersecurity, and advertising.
- Collaborate in the drafting, updating and maintaining of various DISQO forms, standard terms and public-facing documents.
- Develop trusted relationships with all internal teams and create and/or improve internal processes to help both the legal function as well as the business generally.
- Provide legal analyses of applicable laws, regulations and industry guidelines, including in areas of privacy/personal data.
What you bring to the role:
- At least 8 years of combined, relevant experience as in-house counsel within a start-up and/or with a major law firm
- Excellent legal and business judgment with the ability to think critically, strategically, and creatively; ability to appropriately analyze and determine practical, real-world risks is crucial
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to provide innovative and clear solutions to complex problems while managing multiple projects
- Able to communicate (verbal and written) effectively on complex issues; ability to explain complex legal matters in plain language and balance between benefits and practical risks to DISQO
- Excellent drafting and negotiating skills, and mastery of the practice of less is more in contracts
- Business-minded: ability to understand business goals to analyze risk and generate pragmatic and effective solutions to help meet those goals
- Ability to take initiative, prioritize and balance multiple tasks in a very fast-paced environment without the need for micro-management; a strong desire to roll up your sleeves and do what it takes to get the job done
- Attention to detail, business-friendly, and a fantastic teammate and team player who is able to think creatively and accommodate tight deadlines
- Experience working on privacy and data protection matters, including knowledge of and experience with US and global privacy and cybersecurity laws, including CCPA/CPRA and GDPR
