We are looking for a DNS Team Manager to lead and grow our engineering team responsible for the design, development, and operations of our DNS infrastructure. DNS is a foundational service at DigitalOcean, critical to both customer-facing services and internal systems. As a manager, you will play a key role in evolving our DNS platform to support scale, reliability, and automation, while mentoring engineers and collaborating cross-functionally across the organization.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Lead, manage, and mentor a team of engineers responsible for DigitalOcean's DNS infrastructure, including recursive, authoritative, and internal DNS services.
- Define and drive the technical vision and roadmap for DNS in alignment with company objectives and infrastructure strategy.
- Collaborate with infrastructure, product, and platform teams to ensure DNS services meet performance, security, and availability SLAs.
- Oversee the design and implementation of scalable, automated systems for DNS provisioning, monitoring, and failover.
- Ensure timely delivery of projects while maintaining high standards of quality and operational excellence.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, learning, and ownership within the team.
- Manage team hiring, onboarding, performance, and professional development.
What We’re Looking For:
- 5+ years of experience in infrastructure or network engineering, with 2+ years in a people management or team lead role.
- Deep understanding of DNS protocols, including authoritative and recursive DNS, DNSSEC, and Anycast networking.
- Experience operating large-scale DNS services (e.g., BIND, Knot, Unbound, CoreDNS, PowerDNS, or custom solutions).
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, configuration management tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible), and containerized environments (e.g., Kubernetes).
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to partner effectively across engineering and product teams.
- Proven ability to lead through ambiguity and make pragmatic, data-driven decisions.
- Experience with monitoring and observability platforms (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog) is a plus.
Why You’ll Like Working for Digital Ocean:
- We innovate with purpose. You’ll be a part of a cutting-edge technology company with an upward trajectory, who are proud to simplify cloud and AI so builders can spend more time creating software that changes the world.
