The Kubernetes team at DigitalOcean is responsible for the development and operation of DigitalOcean Kubernetes (DOKS), our managed Kubernetes offering. As a n Engineering Manager at DigitalOcean, you will join a dynamic team dedicated to revolutionizing cloud computing. leading a team of around 10-12 engineers working in the next

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead and mentor a team of 10-12 software engineers focused on the development and maintenance of the DigitalOcean Kubernetes platform.
  • Drive the technical vision and roadmap for the DOKS platform in alignment with DigitalOcean's overall strategy.
  • Oversee the full software development lifecycle, from design and implementation to testing, deployment, and monitoring.
  • Ensure the team delivers high-quality, scalable, and reliable software.
  • Collaborate closely with Product Management, SRE, and other engineering teams to define and prioritize features and improvements.
  • Foster a culture of ownership, innovation, and continuous improvement within the team.
  • Remove roadblocks and provide guidance to the team to ensure timely and effective delivery.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies in the Kubernetes and cloud-native ecosystem.
  • Advocate for the needs of DigitalOcean Kubernetes users and ensure their success.
  • Participate in performance reviews, career development, and hiring processes for the team.

Key Metrics:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 15+ years of experience in software development, with a strong understanding of cloud-native technologies.
  • 4+ years of experience in a management or team lead role, leading software engineering teams.
  • Experience with Kubernetes and the cloud-native ecosystem (e.g., Docker, Helm, Prometheus, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems and microservices architectures.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate a team of engineers.
  • A customer-centric mindset and a passion for delivering exceptional user experiences.
  • Experience with agile development methodologies
  • Experience contributing to or working with open-source Kubernetes projects is a plus
  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation).

  • We reward our employees. The salary range for this position is $142,000 - $213,000 based on market data, relevant years of experience, and skills. You may qualify for a bonus in addition to base salary; bonus amounts are determined based on company and individual performance. We also provide equity compensation to eligible employees, including equity grants upon hire and the option to participate in our Employee Stock Purchase Program.
