Finance & BizOps Manager
Capitalize
About Us:
Capitalize is a mission-driven company solving critical problems in the $20 trillion retirement savings market with delightful products, scalable technology, and a world-class team.
At our core, we’re modernizing the $1 trillion in retirement account transfers (401(k) rollovers) that happen annually and currently involve manual, paper-based processes. By doing so, we’re helping the almost 20 million Americans who change jobs each year with a 401(k) do the right thing with their assets rather than lose them to fees and taxes.
Our Enterprise offering includes a full suite of enterprise-grade APIs used by leading financial institutions to help their users find and transfer retirement accounts as part of their core funding flows. Our Consumer offering helps individuals digitally locate forgotten 401(k)s and consolidate them into one of our brand-name financial partners.
We’ve raised $35mm from leading venture capital investors including RRE Ventures, Canapi Ventures, Greycroft, and others, and we’ve been recognized as one of TIME’s 100 Best Inventions and by Forbes as one of the Top 50 Fintech Companies in the US.
About The Role:
Capitalize is looking for an ambitious self-starter for a dynamic role that spans Finance, Operations, Growth and People. You’ll gain exposure to all of these functional areas, which will help build an incredible portfolio of generalist skills to set you up for success. If you have an interest in focusing on one of those verticals, you’ll have opportunities to grow in that direction as well.
This role will have high visibility across the executive team and will require you to solve complex, interesting challenges of a rapidly-scaling startup.
As an early member of our Operations & Finance team, you will have a large and direct impact on our success, and get the opportunity to grow your career and responsibilities significantly over time. If you have experience in early-stage startups, thrive in cross-functional environments, and enjoy going from 0-1, we want to hear from you!
What You’ll Do:
- Strategic Finance: You’ll own the day to day of our finance function, including working with external vendors on monthly close, running our AP/AR motions, managing our budgets, and optimizing our economics.
- Business Operations: Lead cross-functional initiatives and ensure clear communication and accountability across stakeholders. You’ll get to be a trusted problem-solver and thought partner to teams across the business.
- Stakeholder Management: Create exec-ready materials (decks, dashboards, internal briefs), compile investor updates, and contribute to board materials.
- Special Projects: Own key initiatives end-to-end, from ambiguous goals to first-principles strategy and execution. Whether it's setting up a new business function, testing new user acquisition channels, or building a business case for a new product, you’ll be hands-on with the work that matters most.
What You’ll Bring:
- 5+ years of relevant work experience (ideally some combination of investment banking / private equity and experience at a high-growth startup in a strategy, finance, or operations role)
- P&L fluency and advanced financial modeling skills
- A growth mindset, with a demonstrated ability to work across multiple functional areas of a business and drive both strategy and execution
- An ownership mindset, with obsessive attention to detail and a high bar of excellence
- Well-honed interpersonal skills; with excellent written and verbal communication
- A fearless ‘get it done’ attitude, with the ability to find creative solutions to make progress in the face of obstacles and ambiguity
- A plus: experience in Fintech or another highly-regulated industry such as Insurtech or Healthtech
Who You'll Work With:
- Aditi Bhatia, VP of Operations & Finance (manager)
- Gaurav Sharma (CEO, Co-Founder)
Perks:
- Competitive salary ($100k-$140k base, depending on leveling) and equity
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance, with 100% premium covered for employees and 50% for dependents
- 401(k) plan access
- Unlimited paid time off
- 12 weeks of fully-paid parental leave
Note: This role is hybrid based in NYC, with a requirement of at least 4 days in-office.
We’re a mission-driven company focused on doing what’s right - for our customers and for our team. That means assembling a group of diverse, hardworking people who want to be their best in a setting that’s open and inclusive for all. We’re committed to diversity in both measurable terms (e.g. gender, race) and across other dimensions like skill sets and experiences. We believe that a diverse, equitable and inclusive company enriches our professional and personal lives. If that speaks to you, we want to meet you. Come help us build!
