Job Overview:

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced professional to join our team as Resident Engineer and/or Structures Representative for transportation infrastructure construction projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong civil engineering background with experience in Bridge and Structural Engineering; they will possess experience leading infrastructure projects, such as roads, bridges, utilities, and drainage systems, from initiation through to successful completion.

Key Responsibilities:

· On-Site Supervision: Oversee day-to-day construction activities, ensuring the project is completed on time, within budget, and according to design specifications.

· Leadership: Act as lead worker over a team of inspectors, materials testers, consultants, and office personnel engaged in construction inspection.

· Quality Control: Ensure that all construction work meets or exceeds the required quality standards, technical specifications, and industry regulations.

· Coordination & Communication: Serve as the primary liaison between the project team, contractors, subcontractors, and stakeholders, ensuring smooth communication and resolution of any issues.

· Construction Inspections: Conduct routine inspections of the work being performed, including reviewing materials, work quality, and adherence to design drawings.

· Safety Compliance: Ensure the site follows all health, safety, and environmental policies and regulations to create a safe working environment.

· Documentation: Maintain daily logs, inspection records, and other documentation as required by the client and funding agencies.

· Reporting: Provide detailed progress reports to senior management and stakeholders.

Qualifications:

· Education: Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field.

Experience:

Minimum of 8 years of experience in construction engineering, with at least 5 years in public infrastructure projects.

Strong experience managing large-scale infrastructure projects such as roads, bridges, utilities, and drainage systems.

Proven track record of successfully delivering projects on time, within budget, and to specification.

Minium 5 years experience working with Caltrans governing documents including the Bridge Construction Records & Procedures, other Structure Construction (SC) manuals, the Construction Manual, Caltrans' Safety Manuals, Standard Specifications, and Special Provisions.

Certifications:

Professional Engineer (PE) is required.

Skills:

In-depth knowledge of construction methods, materials, and quality control processes.

Logical use of analytical skills to weigh priorities and develop foresight into potential project challenges.

Strong leadership and decision-making abilities to support the project and client.

Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to negotiate with contractors for change orders and potential claims.

Solid understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations.

Flexibility in thinking and behavior to adapt to changes in the project and work environment.

Irreproachable ethics and integrity as part of standards of conduct.

Highly motivated, and able to work on own initiative with minimal supervision, but also to collaborate with our team.

Development and maintenance of client and professional relationships.

Technical experience to review and authorize temporary structures and shoring submittals.

Physical Requirements:

· Ability to work on-site in various weather conditions and environments.

· Ability to work variable hours and schedules including night work.

· Ability to inspect construction sites including climbing ladders and navigating uneven terrain.

· Ability to handle multiple tasks and adjust to changing project needs.

Preferred:

· Previous experience working with Caltrans governing documents including the Bridge Construction Records & Procedures, other Structure Construction (SC) manuals, the Construction Manual, Caltrans' Safety Manuals, Standard Specifications, and Special Provisions.

· Knowledge of applicable California Test Methods and ASTM tests used on bridge and building construction materials.

· Familiarity with environmental impact assessments, permits, and compliance processes.

· Knowledge of Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP), Cal/OSHA safety regulations.

· Experience with general construction claims process and Caltrans dispute resolution.
