Equans is looking for a Water Hygiene Maintainer to join our team in Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth on a permanent basis. This is a full time role working 37.5 hours per week. On offer is a competitive salary and benefits package.

As a Water Hygiene Maintainer you will carry out planned preventative maintenance and minor repairs reactive repairs, temperature monitoring, flushing of water systems. To assist Maintenance Craftsperson’s and Technicians as/when required.

What will you deliver?

  • Deliver routine maintenance and emergency support for hospital water hygiene systems, including water dispensers, showers, drinking water outlets, and specialized equipment.
  • Conduct regular inspections, testing, and sampling of water systems to identify and control risks from Legionella, Pseudomonas, and other waterborne pathogens, complying with HTM 04-01 guidance.
  • Perform scheduled cleaning, disinfection, and preventative maintenance of systems such as Renal Reverse Osmosis Plants, thermostatic mixing valves, and air handling unit glass traps.
  • Replace contamination-prone components, including shower heads, quarterly or as per protocol.
  • Maintain accurate records of water testing, maintenance, disinfection procedures, and compliance audits.
  • Execute pool water hygiene and maintenance tasks in accordance with PWTAG standards, when applicable.
  • Collaborate with Estates management and infection control teams to support audits and ensure compliance with hospital safety standards.
  • Work safely across clinical and non-clinical areas, prioritizing the health and safety of patients, staff, and visitors.
  • Participate in professional development and certified training programs such as the National Pool Operators course.
  • Assist with general Estates duties, including manual tasks and supporting technical staff as needed.
  • Comply with health and safety legislation including COSHH, the Health & Safety at Work Act, and electrical safety standards.
  • Uphold confidentiality of sensitive information and maintain a customer-focused approach.
  • Carry communication devices at all times to ensure rapid response to urgent issues.
  • Work autonomously and collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary Estates team.
  • Promote and contribute to a safe working environment, supporting continuous improvements in hospital water hygiene standards.

Who are we looking for?

  • Proven experience in water hygiene maintenance or related technical roles within healthcare or similar highly regulated environments.
  • Knowledge of water safety legislation and guidance (e.g., HTM 04-01, PWTAG).
  • Ability to perform routine water testing and interpret results responsibly.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent record-keeping skills.
  • Capability to work safely in patient care areas and handle potentially unpleasant working conditions.
  • Good communication skills and capability to engage with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Valid driving license and willingness to undertake driving duties where required.
  • Willingness to complete specialist training and certification (e.g., National Pool Operators Certificate).
  • This role includes a standard DBS check therefore ability to pass is essential.
