About the role
Equans have an exciting opportunity for a Legal Counsel to join the Legal and Commercial team.
Reporting to the General Counsel this role is responsible for providing legal advice and support to the EQUANS ANZ business in a supportive team. The role is varied and will see you working across operations, legal, commercial, and governance in partnership with the business.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice to the Executive Leadership Team, General Managers and staff as required, including but not limited to:
- Contracts – drafting, reviewing, and advising on small- and large-scale commercial contracts, including advising on risk, termination, and litigation.
- Corporate law –advising on business structures, corporate entities, company constitutions and management arrangements including advising on entity structures, directors duties and reporting obligations.
- Industrial relations and employment law – advising on employment contracts, rights, duties, and obligations.
- Assist in litigation matters including briefing external lawyers where required and managing the litigation process.
- Represent EQUANS in commercial negotiations as needed.
- Legal training – develop and maintain a training package and deliver training across the organisation, including to General Managers and less senior staff with practical application for various business units.
- Assist with identification, review of and implementation of business improvement strategies including application of artificial intelligence and automation.
- Draft, review and amend internal policy ensuring legal compliance, relevant application to the organisation and consistency.
- Help in developing and maintain a library of legal and commercial precedents.
About you
- Bachelor’s degree, or higher, in law with experience in Corporate/ Commercial law.
- Between 3-5 years’ legal experience in house or a law firm.
- knowledge of commercial law and regulations.
- Experience preferably in any of the following areas.
- Commercial law,
- Fonstruction law.
- Services industry
- Property
- Proven ability to formulate commercial and practical legal solutions.
- Personable and a good communicator with the ability to break down complex legal matters for a non-legal audience.
- Client focused, with high degree of commercial acumen and effective negotiator.
- Well-developed written and oral communication skills including the capacity to explain in simple terms legal concepts to people without legal experience.
- Ability to represent the organisation confidently and competently.
- Excellent legal analytical skills with diligence.
- Superior problem-solving skills with an ability to identify key issues quickly
- Ability to provide practical advice by applying legal concepts to a commercial business
