Equans is looking for a Department Manager HVAC – Flanders West, responsible for the management of Vandewalle NV, an Equans company.

In this role you plan, organize, lead, coordinate and manage all offers, projects and related business activities of this department, in order to reach the targeted objectives from a commercial, customer relationship, project implementation, budget, profit and resources management point of view. HSEQ aspects are also a priority (safety first!). You have the full responsibility of P&L with the support of divisional or corporate services (HR, Purchase, Legal, etc.). You manage and coordinate these activities in the context of the Group strategy and within the set framework for your specific department.

Within Vandewalle, the past period of interim management has brought structure and stability, as well as the implementation of standard processes in line with Group policies. The expectations for this role for the coming years are maintaining and finetuning the business processes, as well as planting a strong internal team collaboration, expanding sales and delivering profitable projects.

  • strategy:
    • you define and implement the business strategy & vision for your department in alignment with the general Group strategies
  • HSEQ:
    • your ambition is to reach the highest HSEQ standards on your projects and within your department and you put an organization in place in order to do so
  • synergies:
    • you stimulate cross-departmental, -divisional, -entity collaboration on offers and projects
  • commercial & business development:
    • you stimulate and encourage the development of services & markets. In contact with clients, you lead the negotiations for major contracts
    • you lead the commercial activities of your department
  • in cooperation with your technical teams, you are accountable for the technical solutions that you will integrate in your offers and later in the realization of the projects
  • business supervision:
    • you define, follow-up and achieve the commercial, financial, servicing and development targets. You implement and supervise the agreed actions during business reviews, etc. in order to achieve the departmental strategy
  • profitability optimization:
    • you maximize business performance for the short and long term
  • team leadership and people management:
    • within your department, you manage a diversity of teams such as project management, tendering, engineering, sales, service and operational support. You work closely with central teams such as Finance, HR, Logistics, Procurement and Legal
    • you lead and coordinate the HR related activities within your department and ensure cohesion between your teams
    • in cooperation with the HR organization you develop a middle and long term HR-strategy taking into account the age pyramid, the competence needs of your department and the hiring possibilities

Are we a match?

  • master in engineering is required; electromechanical/HVAC background is a nice to have
  • 10 years of experience in a project driven environment (incl. specific HSEQ-aspects) is required as well as solid experience within the construction world - this will provide you credibility, as well internal as in the market
  • experience in:
    • contract management
    • risk management
    • people management (experience with more than 50 employees on own payroll should be a real added value) & proven leadership skills incl. good understanding of HR related topics
    • EPC-projects (is a plus)
  • knowledge of public market (e.g.: in Belgium, France) is a positive point
  • knowledge in maintenance activities is a nice to have
  • business acumen and clear client/commercial focus & vision
  • you have strong financial insights on business related topics & experience in P&L responsibility
  • you have a high interest for all innovative solutions in the energy efficiency world and you take the energy transition as an opportunity to offer our customers the most optimized solution
  • you are able to work in a constructive way in a cross-departmental environment and across Equans entities
  • you have an empathic and connective communication style, combined with firm expectations on discipline, structure and processes - you bring ‘servant leadership’ into practice
  • you are result & client oriented as well as stress resistant
  • you have a very high level of business spirit and the drive, energy and determination to persevere
  • good level in Dutch and English is required, basic proficiency in French is a plus
