Make your impact within a rapidly growing Fintech Company

We are seeking an experienced Senior Marketing Counsel to join our legal team, focusing on marketing compliance and legal review for BILL's marketing initiatives and customer communications. This role requires expertise in advertising law, consumer protection regulations, and marketing compliance for financial services companies.

Key Responsibilities

Marketing & Advertising Compliance

  • Review marketing materials, advertising campaigns, and customer communications for compliance with applicable laws and regulations
  • Ensure adherence to FTC advertising guidelines, state consumer protection laws, and industry best practices
  • Develop and implement marketing compliance policies and procedures
  • Provide legal guidance on digital marketing, social media campaigns, and content marketing strategies
  • Review and approve promotional materials, website content, and customer-facing communications
  • Ensure compliance with CAN-SPAM Act, TCPA, and other communications regulations

Regulatory Expertise & Analysis

  • Stay current on evolving advertising and marketing regulations impacting financial services companies
  • Interpret and apply consumer protection laws including state UDAP/UDAAP statutes and FTC Act requirements
  • Monitor regulatory guidance from FTC, CFPB, and state attorneys general affecting marketing practices
  • Analyze emerging trends in marketing law and digital advertising regulations

Brand Protection & Intellectual Property

  • Support trademark and brand protection initiatives
  • Review marketing partnerships and sponsorship agreements for brand compliance
  • Advise on intellectual property issues in marketing and advertising materials
  • Manage the trademark portfolio

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with marketing, creative, and communications teams to ensure compliant campaign development
  • Work closely with compliance team to integrate legal requirements into marketing processes
  • Provide training and guidance to marketing teams on advertising law compliance
  • Support business development initiatives with legal review of marketing-related agreements
  • Collaborate with external marketing agencies and vendors on compliance matters

✨ Required Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
  • Active bar admission in good standing
  • 7+ years of legal experience with substantial focus on marketing and advertising law
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in marketing counsel role, preferably in financial services or technology companies

✨ Preferred Qualifications:

Specialized Marketing Law Knowledge

  • Deep understanding of FTC advertising guidelines and enforcement practices
  • Knowledge of state consumer protection laws and advertising regulations across multiple jurisdictions
  • Experience with digital marketing compliance including social media, email marketing, and online advertising
  • Familiarity with industry-specific marketing regulations for financial services companies
  • Knowledge of intellectual property law, particularly trademark and copyright issues in marketing

Professional Experience

  • Previous experience at fintech companies, financial services firms, or technology companies
  • Experience with regulatory examinations and enforcement proceedings related to marketing practices
  • Experience working with creative and marketing teams in fast-paced technology environments
  • Background in advertising legal work or in-house marketing counsel roles

Core Competencies

  • Strong analytical skills with ability to interpret complex advertising and consumer protection regulations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to provide practical business guidance
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environment while managing multiple marketing campaigns and priorities
  • Business-minded approach to legal guidance that supports marketing innovation while ensuring compliance

This hybrid role requires in-office work (Mon, Tues, Thurs) at either our San Jose, CA or Draper, UT office. Candidates must be U.S. work authorized with no current or future sponsorship needs and live within 45 miles of one of these locations or relocate by the start date. Fully remote work is not available for this position.

Our ranges for each role and job level are based on a variety of factors including candidate experience, expertise, and geographic location and may vary from the amounts listed above. The role is also eligible for a competitive benefits package that includes: medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, 401(k) retirement plan, flexible spending & health savings account, paid holidays, paid time off, and other company benefits.

$197,600$247,500 USD

The estimated base salary range for this role is noted below for our office location in Draper, UT. Additionally, this role is eligible to participate in BILL’s bonus and equity plan. Our ranges for each role and job level are based on a variety of factors including candidate experience, expertise, and geographic location and may vary from the amounts listed above. The role is also eligible for a competitive benefits package that includes: medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, 401(k) retirement plan, flexible spending & health savings account, paid holidays, paid time off, and other company benefits.

Draper UT pay range
$168,000$210,400 USD
