At Commure, our mission is to simplify healthcare. We have bold ambitions to reimagine the healthcare experience, setting a new standard for how care is delivered and experienced across the industry. Our growing suite of AI solutions spans ambient AI clinical documentation, provider copilots, autonomous coding, revenue cycle management and more — all designed for providers & administrators to focus on what matters most: providing care.

Healthcare is a $4.5 trillion industry with more than $500 billion spent annually on administrative costs, and Commure is at the heart of transforming it. We power over 500,000 clinicians across hundreds of care sites nationwide – more than $10 billion flows through our systems and we support over 100 million patient interactions. With new product launches on the horizon, expansion into additional care segments, and a bold vision to tackle healthcare's most pressing challenges, our ambition is to move from upstart innovator to the industry standard over the next few years.

Backed by world-class investors including General Catalyst, Sequoia, Y Combinator, Lux, Human Capital, 8VC, Greenoaks Capital, Elad Gil, and more, Commure has achieved over 300% year-over-year growth for the past two years and this is only the beginning. Healthcare's moment for AI-powered transformation is here, and we're building the technology to power it. Come join us in shaping the future of healthcare.

As a Senior Engineering Manager, you’ll lead the charge in scaling our engineering team and delivering high-impact software solutions that streamline healthcare operations and improve patient care. You will be at the forefront of one of the company's flagship businesses, compounding at a rapid rate. You will be responsible for shaping the technical direction of our platform while driving team growth and development in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.

About the Role

This role will lead the RCM Core Backend Team at Commure + Athelas, the team responsible for building and maintaining the critical infrastructure that powers our entire Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) product. Our systems handle hundreds of millions of dollars in claims a year, freeing healthcare providers from tedious processes and allowing them to just be a doctor. We accomplish this with robust integrations, fault-tolerant data pipelines, and a swath of clever automations.

In this role, you will work with a high-performance team to drive product-wide initiatives, scale mission-critical backend services, and build new automations, all while ensuring system reliability, performance, and correctness. You’ll help manage both responsibilities of our team: supporting the RCM Product team to build customer-facing features on top of our solutions, as well as working with the Operations team to deliver and maintain novel automations that enable our business to scale with increasing efficiency. You'll also foster a culture of high ownership and engineering excellence, helping grow a team that thrives on solving complex, real-world problems at scale.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead and grow a team of 15+ engineers, ensuring clarity of purpose, healthy execution, and strong collaboration.

  • Maintain the team’s startup mindset as we grow, excelling in fast-paced environments where priorities and objectives can shift.

  • Own the technical execution and delivery of major backend systems and automation platforms that power our RCM products, ensuring they scale alongside the company.

  • Partner closely with Product, Ops, and cross-functional teams to build backend services that solve high-value business problems, filling in gaps as necessary.

  • Manage project and resource prioritization, ensuring the team works on the most important work streams with the right level of urgency and technical rigor.

  • Uphold high standards in system design, code quality, and engineering operations, fostering a culture of reliability and ownership.

  • Coach and develop engineers, supporting career growth, technical excellence, and a high-performing culture.

  • Foster a strong, in-person culture of collaboration, inclusion, and mutual respect within the engineering team.

What You Have

Required

  • 6+ years of experience developing software, with a background in shipping products in a fast-paced, rapidly scaling environment.

  • 3+ years of experience leading engineering teams, including mentoring, performance reviews, and fostering a culture of growth and collaboration.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate strongly with cross-functional teams and effectively present technical concepts to leadership.

  • A passion for healthcare innovation and making a meaningful impact on patient care.

  • Experience managing teams of 10+ engineers, ideally with sub-team leads or tech leads reporting to you.

  • Proven ability to deliver platform-scale systems that are reliable, maintainable, and scalable.

  • Proven experience as a technical leader with the ability to make key architectural and strategic decisions that influence the overall product direction.

  • Strong technical background with expertise in modern backend development (e.g., Python, PostgreSQL, Kubernetes) to build broad, event-driven platforms.

  • Proven ability to manage resource allocation, ensuring that projects are completed on time and with the right level of technical rigor.

Preferred

  • Experience scaling engineering teams in high-growth environments.

  • Background in building and optimizing scalable web applications with a focus on performance and user experience.

  • Experience in highly regulated industries (e.g., healthcare, finance, insurance) with a focus on compliance, security, and reliability.

If you're excited about building the future of healthcare and leading a team of engineers dedicated to making a real-world impact, we’d love to hear from you!

Commure + Athelas is committed to creating and fostering a diverse team. We are open to all backgrounds and levels of experience, and believe that great people can always find a place. We are committed to providing reasonable accommodations to all applicants throughout the application process.
