Job Description:

Airbus Helicopters is seeking an experienced Associate Production Engineering Specialist

to join the Manufacturing team in Columbus, MS. This critical role is responsible for translating Engineering design data, for all technical aspects, into work instructions for fabrication, assembly, and installation of sheet metal, composite, and electrical parts. Position is responsible for assisting the Production Engineering Specialist (PES) team in creating and maintaining released/approved data structures, within the dedicated MRP system, to ensure conformity to design, configuration management, quality assurance, and material planning/schedule requirements. Help/Assist team to analyze manufacturing process flows for enhancements and reductions of cycle time, cost, and material consumption.

Your working environment:

On the eastern border of Mississippi you’ll find Columbus, home to our Helicopter manufacturing and assembly lines and Center of Excellence for the entire North America region. It’s here that we produce the UH-72A Lakota Helicopters for the U.S. Army in addition to the H-125 aircraft for civil and commercial customers.

Your challenges:

Work Preparation: 50%

  • Audit technical work instructions and provide feedback to the PES team for potential updates. This includes all design data required to describe the complete process required to manufacture, assemble, test, process, and deliver the products of the company.

  • Evaluate current sequence tasks to ensure manufacturing, assembly, and installation requirements are implemented to improve efficiency, and provide recommendations to the PES team. Assist to confirm that tasks are in coordination with industrial schedules, back shops, production lines, and retrofit, as required.

  • Input engineering design data requirements into the MRP system, including but not limited to, routing instructions, bill of materials (BOM), design and special process references, production resource tools (PRT), and standard times, as required by the PES team.

Coordination: 30%

  • Coordinate with the PES team on creating and auditing existing work instructions to enhance internal products and ensure that work orders contain more detailed information to add more value for internal customers.

  • Coordinate with PES, Data Management Group (DMG), Planning, Procurement, Engineering, Quality, and Industrial teams to ensure accurate communication of design requirements, in order to facilitate the manufacturing and installation for serial production, retrofit, and new helicopter completion (NHC) activities.

  • Coordinate any material and operational instruction updates to the PES team to ensure new and existing design data is made available to applicable team(s).

  • Collaborate within a team environment to develop creative ideas and solutions and facilitate continuous improvements.

Configuration: 15%

  • Possess basic knowledge of Configuration Management in order to administer the design implementation and evolution of all products of the company, related to Parts 21 and 145.

  • Execute design data updates and implement affected changes into serial production, retrofit, and NHC, to maintain configuration control of all parts, assemblies, and aircraft as required by the PES team.

Your boarding pass:

  • Associate degree or equivalent experience/Bachelor’s degree is preferred

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a manufacturing or customization environment.

  • Knowledge with material requirements planning systems, such as SAP (Preferred)

  • Experience with FAA Part 21 and Part 145 production environments (Preferred)

  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

  • Ability to understand and mentor principles within assigned discipline.

  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical aircraft topics.

  • Excellent communication, coordination, and organization skills.

  • Ability to inter-relate with and motivate diverse teams.

Physical Requirements:

  • Vision: able to see and read computer screens and other electronic equipment with screens, able to read documents, reports and engineering drawings. [Daily]

  • Hearing: able to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone and to hear sounds on the production floor including safety warnings or alarms. [Daily]

  • Speaking: able to speak in conversations and meetings, deliver information and participate in communications. [Daily]

  • Equipment Operation (personal computer, telephone, copies, fax machine, and related office equipment and using electronic identification card to enter building floors and internal doors): able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment and some tools including production tools such as hydraulic lifts. [Daily]

  • Carrying: able to carry documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs. [Several times a week]

  • Lifting: able to lift documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs. [Several times a week]

  • Pushing / Pulling: able to push and pull small office furniture and some equipment and tools. [Several times a month]

  • Sitting: able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on the computer. [Daily]

  • Squatting / Kneeling: able to squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items stored on low shelving. [Daily]

  • Standing: able to stand for discussions in offices or on the production floor. [Daily]

  • Travel: able to travel independently and at short notice. [None]

  • Walking (include routine walking such as to a shared printer to retrieve documents): able to walk through office and production areas including uneven surfaces. [Daily]

  • Personal Protective Equipment required: Required PPE includes, but is not limited to, Safety Shoes, Safety Glasses, Hearing Protection, Respirators/Masks, and/or Protective Gloves as required by site and/or customer site

  • Administrative position only PPE required: Steel-toed shoes are required for all shop floor visits, appropriate hearing/eye protection may also be required when visiting the shop floor.
