Job Description

As a Server you will assist guests regarding menu items in an informative and helpful way and have full knowledge of beverage lists, menu items and preparation methods. A Server will follow all safety and sanitation policies when handling food and beverage.

  • Employees must at all times be attentive, friendly, helpful and courteous to all guests, managers and fellow employees.
  • Readily smiles and maintains an engaging expression throughout full guest experience
  • Exhibits a genuine sense of interest and concern for the guest and demonstrates anticipatory service when appropriate and helpful.
  • Consistently and respectfully personalizes guest interactions, addressing the guest in accordance with their preference, if known.
  • Performs the requirements of their department knowledgeable and proficiently. Can confidently answer any questions about the entire hotel or obtain effective and prompt assistance
  • Have a thorough knowledge of menus and be able to inform guests of dietary restrictions and allergies of each menu.
  • Service guests with all food and beverage requirements in an attentive, courteous, and efficient manner.
  • Pre-bus all tables removing soiled dishes after each course.
  • Be familiar with the operation of the P.O.S system.
  • Perform cashiering functions by closing checks and preparing end of shift paperwork as instructed by management
  • Perform opening and closing procedures and side-work duties according to station rotation assignment and established checklist.
  • Ensure that tables and side stations are kept stocked, tidy and clean at all times.
  • Service guests to the standard steps of service while implementing fundamental standards as outlined by management
  • Breakdown trays of soiled dishes and linen in the dish room according to established standards.
  • Consistently upsell food, beverage and promotional items to guests.
  • Be familiar with fire extinguishers, locations and know how to use them.
  • Obtain and deliver complete food and beverage orders, ensure bill is accurate and collect payment.
  • Ensure overall guest satisfaction and end each interaction with a warm and sincere closing.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Excellent reading, writing and oral proficiency in the English language.
  • 3 year food and beverage serving and/or related food and beverage experience at a luxury hotel or restaurant.
  • Proficient knowledge of wines, spirits, and mixed drinks. (bench test required)

Physical Requirements:

  • Flexible and long hours sometimes required.
  • Must be available to work nights, weekends and holidays if required
  • Medium work - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and /or 20 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
  • Ability to stand for the entire shift.
  • Must be able to maneuver throughout the dining area while carrying full trays of food & beverages.

  • Must be able to effectively communicate, both verbally and written, with all levels of employees and guests in an attentive, friendly, courteous and service oriented manner.
  • Must be effective at listening to, understanding, and clarifying concerns raised by employees and guests.
  • Must be highly articulate and avoids slang and excessive use of phrase-fragments
  • Must be able to multitask and prioritize departmental functions to meet deadlines.
  • Approach all encounters with guests and employees in an attentive, friendly, courteous and service-oriented manner.
  • Attend all hotel required meetings and trainings.
  • Maintain regular attendance in compliance with Raffles Hotel Standards, as required by scheduling, which will vary according to the needs of the hotel.
  • Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, which includes wearing the proper, clean and well fitted uniforms.
  • Comply with Raffles Hotel Standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations.
  • Maximize efforts towards productivity, identify problem areas and assist in implementing solutions.
  • Maintain consistent and complete communication amongst team and hotel associates.
  • Must be effective in handling problems, including anticipating, preventing, identifying and solving problems as necessary.
  • Must be able to understand and apply complex information, data, etc. from various sources to meet appropriate objectives.
  • Must be able to cross-train in other hotel related areas.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Must be able to show initiative, including anticipating guest or operational needs.
  • Perform other duties as requested by management.
  • Maintain a friendly and warm demeanor at all times.
